Boston, San Fran Film Critics Best of 2003

The San Francisco Film Critics Circle picked "Lost in Translation" and the Boston Society of Film Critics picked "Mystic River" for their annual lists.  Again, Bill Murray nabbed a best actor bid from both the San Fran Circle and the Boston Society.  The Boston Society also named "Translation" for best direction (Sofia Coppola) and best actress (Scarlett Johansson).

AFI Names 2003's Ten Best Flicks

The American Film Institute has announced what they call the ten best films that      symbolize "excellence in narrative storytelling" for 2003.  The list is presented in alphabetical order since the institute doesn't believe in ranking the films against each other (how nice of them).  Dig the list.

NY Film Critics Best Film 2003, Return of the King

The New York Critics Circle finally named a Ring film the best of the year.  The final installment is rumored to be the strongest chapter in the series and the one most likely to win the big awards.  Bill Murray was named best actor for his beautiful performance in Lost in Translation.  Sofia Coppola, Translation's director, was named best director.

Something's Gotta Give Wins Box Office

Jack Nicholson's "Something's Gotta Give" brought in a timid 17.6 million over the weekend, beating the second weekend of Tom Cruise's "Last Samuri" out of the top stop.  "Stuck On You," the dumb-ass-looking new comedy from the Farelly Brothers scored 10 million for the number 3 spot.
