"There is a large element of me in every role I do. Actors who say they can dive inside a character are either schizophrenic or lying." -- Bruce Campbell |

Review: The Nutty Professor II
By Acheron on July 31, 2000 7:05 AM
Last night I had absolutely nothing better to do, so I went with my friends to see The Nutty Professor II. I went in to this movie knowing it was going to be bad, but with a lack of better things to do, I decided to give it a chance.
This movie is, of course, a sequel to the popular Nutty Professor in which Sherman Klump discovers a cure for obesity. In this one, he discovers a cure for old age and attempts gene extraction to get the evil Buddy Love out of him. It, as a result makes him stupid. Insert (not so) comedic filler here.
Now I didn't see the first one, but I heard it was really funny, unlike this one. The jokes weren't really solid. Most of the humor came from some of the interaction between the family members, but even that seemed to be less than they were intending. I figure that if you cringe more than laugh during a movie, then there's something wrong with the picture. On top of that, the plot was lacking, but what can you really expect from a comedy?
I don't know, maybe I just didn't connect to it. I certainly feel stupider after seeing it. I did see X-Men and The Perfect Storm, and while the two are completely different genres, they are a much better use of $6-$8. Let me do everyone a favor and save you the trouble of spending your hard earned money on this movie. At least I'll feel better about having spent my $6.50 on this movie if I know that I'm saving others the heartache and misfortune I went through. Conclusion: 3.0/10.0 Unless you have absolutely nothing better to do, don't see this movie. And even then, go see The Patriot, X-Men, or Me, Myself, and Irene again.
