Quote of the day:
"There is a large element of me in every role I do. Actors who say they can dive inside a character are either schizophrenic or lying." -- Bruce Campbell |

Stallone's CHAMPS
By Acheron on July 17, 2000 6:57 AM
I've been watching this for some time now. Stallone's been rumoured to be working on a race car movie for several years now - originally set to be based on the life of the late Formula 1 champ, Ayrton Senna. It has since manifested itself into a CART champ car setting. Throughout the season this year, Stallone and fellow actors have attended about half of the actual race sites to film for the movie, set to release next year. They've been at Detroit, Brazil, Canada, and Japan. They'll most likely be at a few more this year, as the season is only half over.
Sly is cast as an injured driver that is making a comeback, as well as acting as a mentor to another younger driver. It's described as a Rocky on wheels. I hope it's more original than that.
Stallone is credited with writing, acting, and producing this piece. It's budgeted for around $70 million, and according to Harlin, it will be one of the biggest releases of 2001. As much as I'd love to believe it(to say I'm an avid fan is a huge, huge understatement), I think it's going to have a hard time up against the likes of The Matrix. But it will definately help revitalize the sport, which needs it terribly.
You can check out the "official"(I say official, because I can't find another one about it) website here. Regardless of how this film does, I'm going to love this film, as will fellow CART fans. I think it'll be a fun one. Check back here for updates.
