Quote of the day:

"There is a large element of me in every role I do. Actors who say they can dive inside a character are either schizophrenic or lying." -- Bruce Campbell

Topic: Hardware Toshiba & Microsoft to Make E-Book Screens
By Acheron on July 11, 2000 5:58 AM

(Reuters)Japanese electronics maker Toshiba Corp. said on Tuesday it will jointly develop liquid crystal displays (LCDs) with Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) for portable electronic devices that can download books from the Internet. Toshiba and Microsoft will develop specifications for 7.7-inch, color, low-temperature polysilicon thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD panels for electronic books, aiming to develop prototypes of the new panels by the end of this year, the company said.

What I want to know is what Microsoft is doing in this venture? I know they've had their hand in the hardware market for a long time, but this doesn't seem like the best idea after the monopoly hearing. With MS in the mix, those e-books are going to be inherently more expensive. Also, Toshiba, I'm still waiting for my FTC settlement check, so whenever you want to send that out would be fine by me. Don't start spending money yet.
