Due to the disappointing box-office performance of Titan A.E., Fox will be closing their 2-D animation studios. The Phoenix-based 20th Century Fox Animation Studio was run by Titan A.E. director/producers Don Bluth and Gary Goldman. Titan A.E. was a very well made and entertaining animation concept movie, but it simply lacked the element of a well written story.
Lately, it seems that Fox has been going on a downward spiral in the animation arena. The most recent animated competitor, Aardman's truly classic Chicken Run from Dreamworks, pretty much blew Fox's Titan A.E. away.
Titan A.E., an SF epic voiced by Matt Damon and Drew Barrymore, was the third animated film from the studio. Fox's animation studio was formed to make traditional 2-D animated movies. Titan A.E. has earned only a disappointing $16.8 million after two weeks of release, compared to Chicken Run's $17.5 million from their first weekend.
Despite their downfall, Fox will continue to make computer-animated films out of its Blue Sky Studio in New York.
