Quote of the day:
"There is a large element of me in every role I do. Actors who say they can dive inside a character are either schizophrenic or lying." -- Bruce Campbell |

Sun's MAJC Show
By Acheron on April 25, 2000 6:33 AM
The MAJC chip, an acronym for Microprocessor Architecture for Java Computing is supposed to be the "next big thing" in grahics processing in the coming months. Where this chip differs from other graphics processors is that it is supposed to enable broadband Internet services to allow better streaming video and voice to come through quicker and at better quality. Sun hints that along with streaming video, the processor will allow for more of a 3-D experience when browsing the web. They also believe that it could be "used to speed performance of Web servers by lending its computing power to e-commerce-related tasks, such as decryption of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) transmissions, and enabling greater graphics performance for applications using 3-D." Of course the networks and the servers that this is utilized on would have to be upgraded for this technology to work the way it's supposed to, but once that happens, things could look a lot cooler out in cyberspace.
