Quote of the day:

"There is a large element of me in every role I do. Actors who say they can dive inside a character are either schizophrenic or lying." -- Bruce Campbell

Topic: Film New Song "Stars" Leonardo DiCaprio
By Sushuma on January 26, 2000 1:06 PM

The voice of Leonardo DiCaprio appears on "Beached," a new track from UK techno group Orbital. The unusual pairing between the actor and the two computer boffins heralds the arrival of DiCaprio's new film, The Beach. The soundtrack is due for release on February 1. Orbital created the track using samples of the film's principal theme, written by David Lynch collaborator Angelo Badalamenti. "Beached" is peppered with the thoughts of DiCaprio's character, Richard, a tourist in Thailand who discovers paradise isn't all it appears to be. His dialogue is taken from the film, which is based on Alex Garland's cult novel. The Beach's director, Danny Boyle, also made the classic 1996 film Trainspotting. While Trainspotting's eclectic soundtrack spawned Underworld's techno anthem "Born Slippy," a similarly hip line-up contributes to The Beach. Indie-dance rock pioneers New Order are represented by "Brutal," the first new material from them in seven years. Other acts to be featured on the album include Sugar Ray, Blur, Moby, Asian Dub Foundation, and Faithless. The cinematic flair of Orbital's machine-produced music brought them offers to help score both The Saint and Event Horizon. Leo will be hoping that The Beach is better remembered than those two.
