Topic: Film Ender's game movie
By AntiAlias on January 3, 2000 11:59 AM

Although this has already been posted by /., it is right in line with our category of news, and all of us here at Digital Theatre have read the book, and are interested in an Ender's Game movie. For those of you who don't know what Ender's Game is, it is a book by Orson Scott Card about a young boy who is put in a special training school for military purposes. It is set in the future, and is a very interesting read. Click here for more info on the movie, although at the time I'm writing this the site appears to be under the /. effect.

Ender's Game Movie Script   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on July 26, 2001 5:45 AM

Hey, if you're worried, check out the new Ender's Game script. You can find it (or at least an excerpt of it, up until Ender is transferred to Salamander) at http://www.frescopictures.com/movies/ender/script.html. It's pretty much unchanged except for Ender is 9, Val is 13, and Peter is 15. Also the buggers are always referred to as "Formics" and the nickname is Woolies, Ants, or Wooly Ants. Some more - it includes Mazer defeating Buggers, Young Val and Young Peter playing together and the Wiggins signing the waver for Ender. Bernard becomes
"Sebastion." Alai appears in the shuttle and tries to stop Bernard/Sebastion. Ender/Sebastion/Alai/Shen become friends. Major Anderson becomes a woman. Ender does NOT kill Stiltson. They did NOT cut out Petra's great lines when we first met her, nor do they cut out Peter's sadistic ways. However, Val kicks him in the face (!) and Ender punches him in the nasty place and holds a b-ball bat o'er his head. Peter gets a treehouse, and Val makes cookies.
*smile* ;)

i know that these are all old posts, but i've just finished ender's (really liked it) and heard that a movie was in the works...or was.  the links to the script are now dead ends, and the imdb entry is no longer available.  but based on the details in starbrigid's post, it sounds like card changed a lot.  most of it no big deal except for what was mentioned about val and ender physically retaliating against peter.  that detail changes so many of the dynamics of the original story.  the only thing ender feared in the world (universe really) was peter, and that was, at least in part, because he had never stood up to him.  if card is going to insist on adapting the story himself, he needs to be careful of "stephen kinging" himself.  the movie should remain what the book is...a story about a boy...and not a story about the future with a boy in it.

and he shouldn't change their ages...that will make it tough casting, but the finished product will be all the better for it.

all i have to say is, if ur being picked on, u shouldnt have to go to a book for help on standing up for urself. if the movie would be made, it would be awsome, and probably hit it like harry potter did

I'm looking forward to the Ender's Game movie coming out February 2002. It was a great book. I hope the movie's just as great.

Ender's Game and all of the books that have folowed it contained an underlying theme of "tolorance" which I would like to see shared with a larger aduience.  A movie about Ender probobly won't do the book justice but I still think such a message needs to be dilivered

i really don't like the idea of it as a movie because when i see it in my mind no one on earth could match how i see the characters. That would make the movie boring and uninteresting to me.

ya i have to agree with you. but i thought the same thing about the harry potter movie. i thought it wouldnt be great, because the way i picture everything in my mind is better than any movie producer can make. but all in all, i went and say it, and loved it. thats probably how enders game would be if the movie was ever made.

I don't like the idea of an Ender's Game movie either I don't like the idea that when they turn it into a movie, they will make many major changes from the book. (ie: deletion of Demothenes and Locke) I could imagine watching the movie with a roomful of people who never read the book and saying to myself-that's not how it went!

To my understandings, the movie will take along time to be develope.  The book is very good but I'm not so sure the movie's graphic will be so.  I heard that the movie will be based on both Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow.  Ender's shadow wasn't that good yet it showed that Bean is alot smarter than Ender is.  I just hope that the movie will show Ender more than Bean.

Man, This website sucks.  The movie will be sorry because Jake Lloyde will be in it.  He sucked in Star Wars and will suck in this movie.  Ender's game was boring and so was Ender's Shadow.

Ender's Game changed my life and I truly think it is the greatest science fiction book ever written. Card is the author of this great work and he can therefore change his own story however he pleases whether anyone else likes it or not. Therefore I trust that Card will make a movie definitely worth seeing.

OMG, did you say February 2002?! OK, excuse me while I die of excitment.

The whole Ender series are my favourite books on the planet.

You know what though, I honestly don't care how much they cut in the movie. You know why? Because no matter how much they make the movie close to the book, it will *never* add up to how reading the actual story made me feel. The books had so much emotion in it, and you could really get a feel of how much pain some of these children had gone through, and since your reading it, you take the time to understand and learn about the characters and places and situations.

So although I am going to die of excitment when the movie comes out, it'll never add up to these books. But that doesn't bother me one bit.
