American Beauty Leads Golden Globe Nominations
By Azad on December 26, 1999 11:58 PM
The weird, wacky, thoughtful and provocative prevailed in nominations Monday for the Golden Globes, traditionally a sneak preview of film and acting prospects for the Academy Awards. The top Golden Globe nominees were mostly unorthodox films that flirt with the fringes of standard Hollywood fare, including the dark suburban satire "American Beauty," the chilling "The Talented Mr. Ripley," the batty "Being John Malkovich" and the brainy "The End of the Affair." "American Beauty" led the pack with six nominations, including dramatic picture. The other top nominees were "The End of the Affair," "The Hurricane," "The Insider" and "The Talented Mr. Ripley."
