Topic: Film Christopher Nolan to Tackle Batman
By Cmaster2 on January 29, 2003 11:08 AM

Memento filmmaker Christopher Nolan has been confirmed as the next person to tackle the ailing Batman franchise. The British director, whose most recent film Insomnia starred Al Pacino, has signed a deal with studio giant Warner Bros, who currently have three new Batman projects in development.

Nolan says, "I grew up with Batman, I've been fascinated by him and I'm excited to contribute to the lore surrounding the character. Batman is the most credible and realistic of the superheroes, and has the most complex human psychology. His superhero qualities come from within. He's not a magical character. I had a fantastic experience with the studio on Insomnia and I'm keen to repeat that experience."

The Batman franchise started strongly in the late 1980s, with Michael Keaton starring as the caped crusader in the first film and Batman Returns, but the two following movies - Batman Forever with Val Kilmer and Batman And Robin with George Clooney - flopped.

The other two Batman projects are Batman: Year One, a darker tale to be directed by Requiem For A Dream's Darren Aranofsky and Catwoman, which follows the story of Michelle Pfeiffer's Batman Returns character. Kiss The Girls star Ashley Judd is reported to be taking over the role.

Ashley Judd? Great, now like the 60's sitcom, Catwoman is changing hair, skin, everything. The only thing in common with both actress is the lack of breasts.

Wait there's going to be two new, completely different Batman movies? Oh well.

It's over.  Get over it.  Dead, done, pushing up daisies, just give it up for God's sake.

Okay, if it's like the first Batman movie then it will be good. If it's like the forth Batman movie it will be a steaming pile of maggot sh*t. It's as simple as that.

It's football for all the world excepting the US, so I add the word soccer so you can understand what I'm talking about.

Hey, we may be American but we're not stupid! Of course I know that soccer is called football everywhere else. The only reason we don't call it football too is because since we've already got a sport with that name it would get confusing.

Yea but it would be pretty dumb if we called it that too. What would be next? American Basketball, American Baseball, American Ping Pong?

RE: Can't you sleep, Batman?   > reply
Posted by Skullfire (skullfire@clarinmail.com) on March 6, 2003 4:17 PM

No, cause those are sports played everywhere in the same way, unlike football. Hell, there's Australian Football, mixing rugby and soccer.

120
RE: Can't you sleep, Batman?   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on March 10, 2003 5:26 AM

It would still be easier if the rest of the world just called it 'Soccer'

120
RE: Can't you sleep, Batman?   > reply
Posted by Skullfire (skullfire@clarinmail.com) on March 10, 2003 6:10 PM

I think not, and by several reasons.
1- Like the patents, if the first using the name has the right to own it, british invented the football around 1850 or so. Yours is newest.
2- If you guys like and respect democracy so much like your president is saying those days, majority decides, and 99% of the world's population (6 billion less the US) doesn't call it soccer.
3- Yours is played with the arms almost all the time with the passes, excepting the field goals, which by the way, are dominated by foreigners, who are good kickers just because they play since childhood a sport that involves the feet, football.

RE: Can't you sleep, Batman?   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on March 11, 2003 9:09 AM

That's only three reasons dude, I'm just saying that there is only one thing that 'Soccer' means, what's so wrong about that name? By the way, I thought Soccer was invented in China.

120
RE: Can't you sleep, Batman?   > reply
Posted by Skullfire (skullfire@clarinmail.com) on March 11, 2003 4:05 PM

No, there wasn't invented in China. And it's the same with the name "America": it's a continent, not a country. I just hate that attitude of the US "now we are here and we dictate everything".

You've got South America which includes the likes of Brazil and Argentina etc... then there's North America which includes USA, Canada etc... But there's only one AMERICA- THE USA.

America is a continent, you self-absorved yank. Named after Americo Vespucio, first explorer who found the Pacific Ocean in the XVI century.

Without mentioning the islands (Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, etc), the Guayanas (the french one, the british one, and Surinam, the dutch one) and Belize (I don't know if it's free or an US protectorate or something like that), you have from north to south, Canada, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, San Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Brasil, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, and last but not least, Argentina.

You'd better re-cog-nise.

Look, I understand the hesitation everyone has with the idea of these new Batman additions to the ongoing series. But I would think there would be just a bit more excitement. What did everyone LOVE about the 1989 Batman movie? The DARKNESS... right? I think everyone tends to forget this and is jaded by the last two homoerotic dance flicks that the last two have been. But what people don't seem to be rec-cog-nizing, are who the new directors are. Christopher Nolan, If anyone has seen his 3 films (The Following, Memento, Insomnia) they would know that he doesn't exactly have the lightest sense of film or "campy" feeling that we tend to associate with the current state of the Batman series.

Now for Batman: Year 1.

DARREN ARANOFSKY!
HAS ANYONE SEEN 'PI' OR REQUIM FOR A DREAM?!?!?!?!?!

I CAN"T THINK OF ANYONE WITH A DARKER SENSE OF DIRECTION!!!!

JESUS CHRIST! QUIT YOUR FRIGGIN COMPLAINING AND WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE A PIECE OF CRAP ON THE SCREEN BEFORE YOU EVEN GO AND SEE IT!

As for Catwoman... yeah. I don't know much about this one....I think this could suck, or maybe not.
