Quote of the day:

"There is a large element of me in every role I do. Actors who say they can dive inside a character are either schizophrenic or lying." -- Bruce Campbell

Topic: Film Dreamworks Toys with Disney
By Acheron on May 1, 2001 3:33 PM

(Empire)  For the upcoming Shrek movie, starring Mike Myers, Dreamworks pokes fun at Disney in several places.  But to make sure that nothing they do is over the top, to the point of insult, they've called in some lawyers to make sure that they're not doing jokes that could be considered foul in any way.

The computer animated movie, which is released on May 18 nation wide, tells the story of Shrek - an ogre who finds his home invaded by a bunch of unwanted fairytale characters.

As some of these characters are also Disney favourites - Cinderella, Robin Hood et al - Dreamworks brought in the lawyers to check that they weren't dragged through the courts by the House of Mouse. 'We showed every scenes to lawyers as we went along, 'says Shrek Director Andrew Adamson, 'We did not want to be sued by Disney.' Jeffrey Katzenberg, who left Disney to found Dreamworks, agrees. 'We have a tremendous amount of respect for Disney,' Katzenberg told the paper. 'I am sure nobody will be offended and they will see the joke.

It's almost a shame, really. I could go for some foul Disney jokes.

Lawyers or not, Disney has no sense of humour.  Dreamworks, you are going to court.

What do you find funny about it?

Due to competition Disney is not doing as well as in the recent past, however lets keep in mind that Disney is the aftermath of Walt Disneys incredibly humble start. Regardless of the same baloney beingproduced over and over again, Disneyis still a multi billion dollar powerhouse. And I like Jimminy Cricket.

Who wouldn't have great respect for this classic American company.
