Topic: Film Tarantino's Upcoming Film
By Acheron on April 26, 2001 3:10 PM

(FoxNews) It's been 3 years since Tarantino did his last film, Jackie Brown, but that's all about to change.  He's signed on Warren Beatty and Uma Thurman in the upcoming Kill Bill.

Readers of this column know we broke the story about Beatty's possible participation in this film last year. And last week, Beatty reaffirmed his faith in Tarantino.

So says Quentin now: "I'm almost there! I've been working and working on this great sequence at the end for Warren and it was driving me crazy, but then I decided to just let go and let it happen and it has and that's the way you have to do it. When I'm done, then [producer Lawrence] Bender will go through it and give me notes, and then if there's no strike, we start."

Contrary to popular belief, he's not thinking of doing a prequel to Pulp Fiction about Vinny and Vic Vega, rather, a story on what happened to the Vegas before the Pulp story took place.  According to Tarantino, though, he won't start working on that for a while, if it even happens.

"First I have to finish Kill Bill, then I have a war movie I'm trying to finish."

I know there are a lot of Tarantino fans around these parts, but I think most of his movies blow. Reservoir Dogs was great, but mostly cause it was different, True Romance which I think he had a hand in was great, Pulp Fiction was OK, the others were painful. I liked when Itchy & Scratchy killed him on the Simpsons, though I personally do not wish him dead.

For those of you who like "real violence" movies, check out "Way of the Gun", it was OK.
I watch way too many movies.

Holy cr@p do people on this site even watch movies, or just rag on each other all day?

Tarantino I'll agree hasn't produced anything that spectacular in quite awhile but that doesn't mean he doesn't have anything left in him to do the job. He always does a spectacular job of creating some type of a little rant captured on film that has me going back and rewinding the movie just to make sure I heard the whole thing right. From the argument about the meaning of Maddonna's "like a virgin" to the reasons why Top Gun is the greatest story ever told, he always leaves me cracking up.

I find his niche is less about violence and more akin to the humanity behind the violence. Prior to his early films most movie bad guys were characters that you'd hate from the moment you saw them on the screen. His films showed you the people who commited these acts were in fact just like you and I, albeit quite a bit more twisted. It gave the violence more of an edge as we struggle to think of how we relate to these evil characters now that they are given a character that we can relate to, rather than just the evil persona of pure violence and hate that movie goers had come to expect.

Of course these are only my opinions. I encourage you to form your own.

Oh my god!!!  How many people on earth really love to suck Quentin Tarrantino's cack??  This is a f*cking epidemic.  The guy is a moron, a plagarist (even ask Roger Avary), and way too hyped up.  Find a better movie icon, move along.

Way of the Gun was the stupidest movie I have ever seen... You would think that the writer of Usual Suspects would have come up with a great one for his first time behind the camera... but no, I hated this movie I cant even tell you how much.

Alright! You go Quentin! His films are great! RESERVOIR DOGS and PULP FICTION were excellent! So were DUSK TIL DAWN, FOUR ROOMS and TRUE ROMANCE. JACKIE BROWN was alright, but I have them all........and the screenplays......plus his original writing of NATURAL BORN KILLERS! I'm getting very impatient...so hurry up Quentin!!!

Jackie Brown was very underated. Mostly because people wanted Res Dogs, or Pulp, which it wasn't. It was true to itself, which is why I believe it to be a success. I recomend a second look at it. You might be surprised how well it plays.

The peanuts gallery aside, I hope that Tarantino will put a lot of effort into his new one. Pulp Fiction was Golden, but Jackie Brown was down right boring. That vampire movie with Kietel was so stupid I left the theatre. He has the ability to tell and portray a fantastic story, but he's shown that he also creates a lot of lousy flicks. If all of you guys are interested in a violent movie of big budget proportions, then wait till next Christmas, when "Gangs of New York" comes out. It will take place in NYC 110 years ago, and its supposed to be like Clock work Orange. ULTRA-Violence!
Good Stuff.

100% American is 100% right. The rest of you morons who think Tarantino is god need to see more films. After Dogs and Pulp, it all went to Tarantino's head resulting in the crap that he's put out since. When it comes down to it, Tarantino's style is simply to portray graphic violence and make it funny to watch. He'd be better off making "3 Stooges" movies.

Tarantino has only made 3 movies. Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Jackie Brown. True Romance and Natural Born Killers were based on scripts he had written before Reservoir Dogs, but he had nothing to do with the movies. Dusk til Dawn he produced but did not write or direct. He's had his fingers in a lot of movies, but has only actually directed 3, 2 of which were pretty damn good. (JB did kind of blow).

I'll be looking forward to this. Although I can't stand to watch an interview with him as I find he himself annoying as all hell, I enjoy his work. Well, Res. Dogs and Pulp were excellent. The rest, I don't know. I do think he spread himself a little thin in a relatively short amount of time and the films suffered as a result. Here's hoping the 3 year break will put him back where he should be.
I don't think he just portrays ultra violence and tries to make it funny. He has a style that screams his name and you know you're watching him. And while most people focus on the violence (which, true, he makes seem like a fine art), it seems a lot of people don't seem to notice that his films are strongly narrative driven, and very well done so in that manner.

agreed, his style does scream his name and I can enjoy any of his movies given the right setting.. its too bad that people today cant just enjoy a friggin' movie unless its put out by their fav producer and stars their fav actor... just because he did a few movies that wernt laced with layers, that were just fun, doesnt mean hes all washed up, mabye these freaks ought to go back to their comic books and rooms in the folks attic.... or better yet, just stop whining

I've noticed that its usually the people that used to read comic books and lived in their parent's attic (though typically, only in their childhood) that appreciate Tarentino's films more than those that haven't.  Even Tarentino himself is a comic guy.  Check out the "who drew a better Silver Surfer, Kirby or Moebius?" arguement he wrote into that Denzel Washington submarine movie (sorry, its too late for my brain to remember the name)

Everybody failed to mention "Crimson Tide".  It was Tarantino's re-write of this script that made the film.  Remember the sweet dialogue, and the mexican stand off?  Now you remember.  Pure genius.

Hell yes, Owen Wilson is the funniest man of the planet. When he's trying to be funny... he's funny. When he's not... he's funny. It doesn't matter what the man says, everything that comes out of his mouth is a riot.
Watch Bottle Rocket again. The bit when he says "And my name's Dignan, man, so what?"... bwahahaha!
And Rushmore... I mean, he's not even IN the movie, but his magic seeps on in. Whew... makes me laugh...
