The first pictures of the famous web-slinger in costume has finally hit the Net, according to news from Empire Online UK, and we can see that Sam Raimi has stayed quite faithful to the original comic book by preserving the traditional red and blue bicep-hugging look. Entertinment Weekly did the first exclusive shot, followed by a second and much better image from the Coming Attractions Web Site.
There was the temptation for Raimi to entirely re-imagine and even redesign the suit, but luckily he managed to kill the thought and decided to stick with the traditional look. In development for six months, the costume was created by designer James Acheson who revealed to Coming Attractions earlier that: "It is based on tension - and is one piece - all the way from the boots to the top of the head. The boots have actually been built into the suit."
The suit itself features a dyed-latex web-motif, and over 120 silk-screens to give the impression of shading and eye pieces designed by sunglass designers Oakley, also responsible for Cyclops’ visor in last summer’s X-Men movie. With this much style going into the outfit, Tobey Maguire is definitely going to be the slickest Spider-Man yet.
Maguire himself has undergone quite a lot of acrobatic training, now very freshly toned and beefed up than he ever was. The suit definitely looks good on him, and fans will get to see the wall-crawling, web-slinging hero do his stunts when the movie shows on the big screen in 2002.
