Quote of the day:

"There is a large element of me in every role I do. Actors who say they can dive inside a character are either schizophrenic or lying." -- Bruce Campbell

FINBOROUGH THEATRE GUEST SEASON 2001

My Dog Graham Productions Ltd presents
AMERICAN SHORTS
A Double Bill of New American Comedies
The UK Premiere of The American Century by Murphy Guyer
The World Premiere of Bus Stop Blues by Kyle Mercer

Directed by David Pain. Designed by Maki Anzai. Lighitng by Bodil Anshus. Sound by Mayumi Hashimoto and Martin Webb with Wombat Records. Visit the website at www.AmericanShorts.com.

The American Century - A married couple blissfully reunited after the end of World War Two are interrupted in the act of procreation by the son they are actually making. He is back from the future and his careless revelations about their future family are horrifying for them and hilarious us. Murphy Guyer's wry comic tale engages the fascination of American therapy-dependent culture of the modern era and it's encroachment on convivial post War times. Murphy Guyer's plays have been produced at the Actor's Theatre of Louisville as part of the Humana Festival of New American Plays, New York, Philadelphia, Cleveland and at the Eugene O'Neill Playwrights Conference. International productions of his work have been seen in Moscow, St Petersburg and Tbilisi, while The American Century has received productions in Berlin, Moscow and at the Dublin Theatre Festival.
"A convulsively funny playlet, a blend of satire to be savoured" The Irish Times
"Absurd, highly original and guaranteed to send you from the theatre with a smile on your face…The writing is a delight" Irish Press

Bus Stop Blues - An absurdist story of a young man desperately in need of some direction in his life. He finds himself inexplicably detained at a bus stop by an elderly woman who claims to process the knowledge of the secret of longevity. "Specializing in dark-humored one-acts, Kyle Mercer's plays has received recognition from the Actors Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival of New American Plays and the Cleveland Public Theatre's Annual New Plays Festival. Bus Stop Blues had its first (and only) public reading in Houston in March 2000 as part of the Country Playhouse's Eighth Annual New Plays Reading Series. Edward Albee attended the reading and provided a great deal of input into the finished version of the text.
