My main problem with this film is it's one of those murphy's law to extreme type of films. Everything goes wrong, and yet for everything that goes wrong there is a solution which in most cases make no sense. Could you really solder a radio together out of a pci modem card that's been sitting on the surface of mars for 50 years?
And of course out of the whole surface of the planet everything they need is within walking distance. I was a little disapointed at the small role that the Chantilas character played by Terence Stamp was given. He seemed to be an interesting character, but not much was done with him. Once you get around some of the cheesy plot cliches, and technical errors like "stand him up" when they are in zero gravity, Red Planet is an entertaining movie.
Conclusion: 7.0/10.0. It's worth seeing if you are at all a sci-fi fan, or if your just looking for a fun film with some action. It has good special effects, some interesting plot twists and it has Carrie-Anne Moss.
