Quote of the day:
"There is a large element of me in every role I do. Actors who say they can dive inside a character are either schizophrenic or lying." -- Bruce Campbell |

Hey CART Fans, Driven Gets a Trailer!!!
By Acheron on October 28, 2000 4:59 PM
As some of you may know, I am one of the biggest CART racing fans in existence. That being said, I've tried to keep close tabs on the upcoming movie known as CHAMPS by some, but now officially as Driven. Slated for a Spring 2001 release, Driven tells the story of Joe Tanto played by Sylvester Stallone and his call out of retirement to give some "up and coming" drivers pointers for the CART championship. Shooting has been going on this season, as director Renny Harlin has taken his production team to a little less than half of the races for filming. It will hopefully hold true to the spirit of CART while bringing in new fans to experience the most competitive form of open wheel racing out there.
As I was waiting for Jackie Chan's new movie, The Legend of Drunken Master, to start, I got what I was waiting so long to see. As soon as I heard the enines, I knew what it was (even though the engine noise at the beginning is of Formula 1 cars).
As excited as I was to see the trailer, I did become concerned about how the movie would turn out. As a die hard fan, I don't want to see any fantastically inaccurate portrayals, or glorifications at all, even though some of that is necessary to tell a good story. Juding by the teaser trailer, there was a big focus on the hotties, rather than the racing. But I guess that's what a teaser trailer is for (look at the teaser to Fight Club -- a great movie that had a super cheesy teaser). All I have to point out is the shots on the city streets alone (ignoring the lack of racing gear) is making me a little worried about the integrity of this film. I hope Renny Harlin knows what he's doing...
To view the trailer, click here. You must have Windows Media player to view this(click here to get it). For Quicktime, RealPlayer, and higher/lower quality WM versions, go to the Driven website. If you're new to the sport, check out the season finale, The Marlboro 500, this Sunday at 2:30 EDT on ESPN. This race will determine the champion of the $1,000,000 and the Vanderbilt Cup, the award for CART champ of this season. There are five drivers in contention for the award, the most in CART history, so you're guaranteed to see a truely competitive race tomorrow. Once again, check back here for updates as the release date approaches. |
