The PSX2 Review That Wasn't
By SKillBot on October 26, 2000 12:14 PM
Oct. 26, the long awaited release date for the PSX2 in the United States. I had my 5 month old $10 reservation burning a hole in my pocket, and I woke up early to get in line.
And all I got was a t-shirt from the very polite Sony representative. Apparently, due to Sony's change in shipments, Software Etc. was unable to fulfill all the orders they presold. More than being inconvenient, I'm pretty sure that it's also not legal. When I made my reservation, I was given a stub that says "Present this stub at the store in which you made your reservation and pay balance due (if any) to receive your product."
The excuse I was given was that only reservations paid in full would be delivered, and that they tried to call me a couple times to let me know. The phone number I gave (ages ago) was no longer active by the time they tried to tell me about this, and there was absolutely no mention of this change on their web site. Needless to say, I'm not impressed.
I was even less impressed when I talked to the Sony rep. She said that Sony told retailers not to presell consoles. And that was after listening to the store manager blame Sony as a response to my bitching for so long. So, this is all the fault of Software Etc. I want blood! I want free games! I want the fullest extent of a lawsuit for fraudulent business practices!

sucks doesn't it? First of all, you should have gone to a store that was guaranteed to have a lot(20-30) in stock. Not one that would get like 5. I was at walmart yesterday, and asked the rep about "the process" of getting one from them(just for shits and giggles). He said that they were selling them at midnight, and it was around 6 PM and the line was long...and they only had 27.
Not that I was planning to get one, but I would have liked the option to get one. Sony's going straight to Hell over this one. They better make ammends in the coming months...
BTW, for you lucky bastards that did get one and want to make some quick cash, put it up for auction on Ebay -- especially around December 15th or so. You'll make a few hundred bucks easy...especially if you throw in games/controllers... Just a thought.

The highest ranking grunt there was pretty cool (considering he was just doing his job, and it's me vs. his boss), and we got $5 off the new zelda game.

Suck it up, crybaby. You've been following the news, you know that every store has been getting like 6 of them. Software Etc. is doing the best they can, it's not their fault that Sony didn't ship as many as they said they would.
How can you blame Software Etc?
Just wait, you'll get yours eventually.
Sheesh. -A

I'd much rather Software Etc. suck it up than me. After all they did:
a. Take my money a long time ago. b. Say that in exchange for this money I would be getting a product. c. Give me a receipt indicating this. d. Never say that this was subject to change
e. Didn't mention this on their web site. f. Did something against Sony's recommendation, and are not taking responsibility for it.
So the way I see, they messed up pretty hard in the interest of corporate greed, and they aren't very interested in taking care of it. I'm sure they'd see it differently if I tried to shoplift something from them.

It's totaly your fault and you know it..
You should have
a. put down more than 10 dollars like the guys who actually managed to get one
b. Actually given a real number that they could get back to you with
c. not done something against Sony's recommendation, and not take responsibility for it.
I wish you would have listened to Antialias and I, now we don't have DVD player.. I knew you wouldn't get one that's why I didn't even worry about getting up in the morning when you were all excited like a 6 year old girl at christmas.. LOL

It's totally not my fault since I:
a. Put down all the money they said I would ever need to put down in my whole life to get what they promised. b. Should have asked for my email address, or put something on their web site, which is a much better way of getting a hold of me than these silly phone things. c. Uh... well, at least now I can try to bend them over their own counter and make them my bitch. If nothing else, it'll be fun.
And I listened to you plenty. I listened to you say "We're not turning this game off until thursday when you get your psx2 so we can clear off some memory slots without losing our characters." :) All your sayings of disbelief were done without me there to intimidate you - weeniehead <-- clever 6 yr. old girl insult!

have you assholes ever heard of doing other things like reading a book, or at least watching football, baseball, or auto racing??? You know, there's a 5 driver toss up in the championship that comes down to the final race of the CART season on Sunday(2:30 EDT). And the world series is on, and college football couldn't get more exciting...

ok dimwit, first of all it's the ps2. the x in psx stands in for the 1. it's not the ps12. second ages ago, everyone knew
that sony wasn't going to ship enough,
if you didn't put down the full amount that's
your mistake. and it's your own fault you
didn't update the phone number you gave
the ages ago (how long could it honestly have been, they haven't been taking deposits on ps2 for very long) to
keep yourself informed. hey, and if you're that pissed, don't shop
at software etc. (or for that matter it's owner babbages and co-owned funcoland)
and don't buy a ps2. but we all know you
will buy a ps2, and so does sony.

I looked all over the internet for 'psx2' and there seem to be quite a few dimwits calling it that. Checkout psx2.com or software etc.'s site where they have a whole section labeled 'psx2'. Until you can show me some links to why it's not called a psx2, I bite my thumb in your general direction!

Okay, so I'm a dumbass. For years, I wandered around wondering what the 'x' was for. I keep thinking playstation + 2 = psx + 2 -> psx2. And 'ps2' makes me think of the PS/2. So, I have been reading the news, that's why I checked their web site to see if they have any announcements on the release. They didn't have anything impressive, it was mostly a way to buy games online.

I think it is obvious what Sony is doing. They are pulling the Power Rangers marketing ploy. They release only a small amount of the product in question just to wet the appitite of the consumers, then they hit you with a huge wash of the systems. Bandi did the same thing with the action figures. Sony had plenty of time to mass produce millions of consoles but they spent their time remodeling the DVD components for the American release. Sega did the same thing, only nobody was waiting in line for that system.
