Quote of the day:

"There is a large element of me in every role I do. Actors who say they can dive inside a character are either schizophrenic or lying." -- Bruce Campbell

Topic: Film Spidey's got a Girl, but where's the Villain?
By Azad on October 20, 2000 11:08 PM

According to news from the Spider-Man Hype! site, Tobey Maguire, who will be playing Spider-Man himself in Sam Raimi's upcoming film, told Italian journalists that Alicia Witt is definitely in the running the path to play Peter Parker's girlfriend, Mary Jane.

On a different note, Maguire commented that filmmakers are having trouble casting the role of the villainous Green Goblin. Originally, John Malkovich was supposed to play the role, but it's unclear whether Malkovich is leaving the project.

Earlier this month, Raimi confirmed that Malkovich was the choice for the role of the villain (a.k.a. Norman Osborn). Hopefully that'll still ring true, because Malkovich just has the perfect "freaky" guy aura surrounding him. The film is marked for a January 2001 production start.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don't think Miss Witt will be taking off anything in the new spider flick. She recently turned down a role in the new Robin Williams flick "One Hour Photo" because it required her to take it off. I may be wrong but I just thought I'd let you know.

She'll take it off, alright, just not for spidey. She's had one nude scene on the sopranos on hbo, but the fact remains, that this will probably be a PG-13 movie. No nudity allowed, DUH.
