Topic: Hardware New VAIOs Will Have GeForce2 MX
By SKillBot on October 17, 2000 1:19 AM

NVIDIA announced that Sony's VAIO Digital Studio series of mini-tower systems for PC and video enthusiasts will use the GeForce MX GPU.

It's sorta like a DV iMac for video processing, except that it's a decent tool (dis!).

Here's what marketing has to say:

Designed for the PC and video enthusiast, the VAIO Digital Studio series desktop PCs (PCV-RX260DS, PCV-RX270DS and PCV-RX280DS) comprise the next generation of computing and digital imaging convergence. The models focus on power and creativity by emphasizing digital imaging, movie editing, video e-mail and music. The DVD drive on the VAIO Digital Studio series is ideal for video playback of popular DVD titles, and the CD-RW drive is a solid storage medium for all the personal memories created through the included MovieShaker™ software.

That's cool. Although the GeForce2 MX isn't as fast as the GeForce2 GTS, it still benchmarks pretty high. I wasn't really looking into a laptop before mainly because of the video card. If they put that one in there, I may just buy one soon.

I don't think these are the laptop VAIOs. That's what I thought at first, but I've seen a few mini-tower VAIO models before, and that's what these are.

ive come to the conclusion after testing maC vs pC that its like pC never showed up to the 'bout! its a complete waste and whats up with you pC dorks not even being able to spell 4 letter words like diss!LOL
get a grip ya'll i used to think its was just microsloth windoze fault but now i see pC's just sraight up are very badly engineered and whoever says different well its like a owner of a pinto taking shots at a mercedes-benz!i guess if you dont know the difference in quality how can one explain it you!?another words class cannot be taught either you have it or you dont!:)

Aww...I should have read the whole thing before getting my hopes up. That would have been cool. Anyway, because of Glide, I took out the GeForce2 MX out of my computer and put in a Voodoo 3 3000.

The GF2 MX is one of the best cards out there. I can't believe you want to put a *legacy* card like the V3 in in place of the GF2!

For some reason, the Voodoo 3 3000 gives me 122 fps on Tribes with Glide on my K7-700MHz and the GF2 MX gave me 60 fps with OpenGL. I prefer the extra boost for now.

Actually, I've noticed that too in Tribes. I thought I'd get a *lot* better than ~60fps, but i haven't been....oh well. Gotta take what you can get. 60fps isn't too shabby

On Half Life, Q3 and UT, I seem to get MUCH higher speeds with the GF2, though. Maybe I should get both cards and swap them when I use them for whatever.
