With the success of the best-selling series of Harry Potter, Hollywood instantaneously snatches one of the books in the series, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" for an adaptation to be shown to fans on the silver screen. According to the official website, a cast has finally been selected to fill the roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione. A young Daniel Radcliffe, 11, will fulfill the role of Harry Potter. While newcomers Rupert Grint, 11, and Emma Watson, 10, will grace the silver screen for the first time as Ron and Hermione.
The three young actors are virtually unknown to the American audience. Radcliffe’s short acting resume has given him minor fame in the U.K., having attained a starring role in BBC’s production of David Copperfield and an upcoming appearance in the upcoming John Boorman film The Tailor of Panama. Grint and Watson on the other hand, have “school plays” listed as their acting experiences. However, despite their lack of popularity to the American populace, author J.K. Rowling approves of the casting.
Director Christopher Columbus states, “The process was intense, and there were times we felt we would never find an individual who embodied the complex spirit and depth of Harry Potter. Then, Dan walked into the room and we all knew we had found Harry.”
The movie is set to begin filming before the end of the year.
