Topic: Film Christians Picketing Potter
By Azad on August 16, 2000 10:42 AM

A report from the British newspaper The Citizen indicated that demonstrators plan to picket Gloucester Cathedral in Great Britain during the filming of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Churchgoers reportedly object to the portrayal of witchcraft and wizardry in the film, which is based on J.K. Rowling's best-selling children's novel.

Since religious issues are always the most sensitive of all debates, I will not touch on this one even with a ten foot pole. And of course, the reason for picketing deserves an explanataion:

The cathedral will stand in as Harry Potter's Hogwarts School of Wizardry. Go figure.

The movie, to be directed by Chris Columbus, is set to begin filming before the end of the year.
