Topic: We are bored HOPE CRUSHED, EVIL FUCKING BUSH PREVAILS!
By Wind(up)bird on November 3, 2004 8:55 AM

Its a sad, sad day in America for people who champion reason, diplomacy, the larger global community, intelligence, and a woman's right to choose.  The worst, most blantantly arrogant world leader in recent history will continue his reign of "freedom."  Your thoughts?

Yes George W. Bush won a 2nd term.  Electoral votes: Bush - 279 vs Kerry - 252.  The people voted.  But the U.S.A. is still divided.  In the last 4 years the nation has not gotten stronger or better.  The man asks the U.S. for its trust, but in reality there is more distrust in this administration than ever before.  Division causes disorder.  This president has fractured & divided this nation to a degree never seen before.  This man does not deserve the title *PRESIDENT*.

Theres nothing wrong with bush.  I am a United States Marine, and as far as i can tell, he is not a bad president.  I was in iraq for 2 years, and trust me, what he is doing there is the right thing.  I would believe it either if i didnt see it with my own eyes.  As far as Binny Boy,  its only a matter of a couple of months till we have him.

Bush was reelected by the largest margin in history... I hardly think he cheated...You leftos need to get over yourselves...Thats whats wrong with you goofs you think no one in America can think for themselves so you have to do it for us.
At least Bush stands for something. As far as I can see John Kerry stood for whatever would get him elected....

Bush won for moral reasons, not economic or political ones. If you read spanish, you will find this article (made before the final count) from a philosopher very interesting: Click

There are two other particular things to notice: the largest percentage in favor of Bush was in Utah, the most religiuos state of the Union. And, how ironic, in Washington, 90% of Bush's neighbours voted for Kerry. ¿Too close for them, maybe?

You liberals that run this Web site are the biggest dumbasses!!! Why dont you go stick your head up Michael Moore's ass like you have been doing all year long. Maybe you will disappear and solve this country's problems. You all dont have a goddamn thought in your head that even comes close to resembling an idea that could be useful for this country.

When you start recruiting stupid bitches like Cameron Diaz and Kirsten Dunst (and Leonardo DiCrapio for that matter) to do your talking for you, then you know you are in trouble.

As for the two johns, those two dumbasses are more concerned about doing each other's hair than making the world safer. You left-wingers can go fuck yourselves.

It's amazing how people think...always that the grass is greener on the other side and that the way things are "today" are not as good as they were or should be.  It's a tough time and people should support the president no matter who it is.  This goes for the military who protect us every day from outside threats and allow people such as those with their pants down to disgrace what this country stands for.  Nothing is perfect...but I know that this country is the best and that's why so many people risk their lives to come here and even protect it.  I'm just sorry to see the lack of respect for the democratic process.  Just because we have freedom of speach doesn't mean we should lose respect for one another or our morals!

RE: BUSH CHEATED AGAIN!!!!   > reply

The reason why the majority of America voted for Bush is because the majority of Americans are stupid inbred hicks with intelligence as low as Bush himself. Only the people on the East and West coasts have any common sense but their numbers are not great enough to swing the vote.

And I think the point was taken, too... Part of living in America is *supposed* to be free speech, and part of liberty is *supposed* to be the understanding that we *don't* have to support our president, no matter what. We *should* have a right to protest, a right to bash any political figure we want, for any reason we want.  It's a principle this country was founded on.

Yep, Bush won.  Us HICKs and religious wackos as we seem to be labeled sat back and watched Kerry/Edwards waffle, flip, flop, stutter and strutt and then you know what...we got up and voted. I am not a hick and I am not a religious wacko.  I am a single white mother of one seven year old daughter.  I am a believer and I want her to grow up in a country that is safe (as it can be)and is firm in the beliefs that it was founded on.  I belive in truth, justice (not only for ourselves but for others), and yes, the American Way.  We sit over here in AMERICA where the things we say out loud and in emails such as these cannot even be thought in places like Iraq, China and Cuba.  We cannot imagine the fear that these people have lived with most of their lives.  Fear for themselves and fear for their children.  They now have hope; something some of them have only imagined. Are these people any less worthy then african americans were 200 years ago....600,000 men died to free them...a newly formed USA was split down the middle then...brothers fought brothers...just based on which side of the Mason Dixon line you happened to be on...No war is good but sometimes the ends justify the means.  Only time will tell.  Meanwhile, Bush is a good, praying man.  We are lucky to have someone of his caliber and faith that cares enough about this country to serve it as President.

Oh, and for those that are headed to France or Canada or outerspace...this is still the land of the free....FEEL FREE TO LEAVE and maybe just maybe when you try to come back because maybe a socialistic choice was not the best one...maybe the borders will be closed and you will be OUT OF LUCK!

Ciao!  MES

Let me guess the reply

WE ARE NOT FIGHTING FOR ANYONE BUT OUR OWN INTERESTS and are IN NO WAY DEFENDING OURSELVES OR FREEDOM.  We are colonizing in Iraq, and building a stronger opposition to Palestine and uncontrollable Muslim nations.

I voted for Bush, and no, I don't live in the deep south or midwest, I live in the northeast. Some of us educated northerners were smart enough to realize bull#$@% coming from the mouth of lying democrat when we heard it.
Now the best thing for this whole country to do is to stand united behind the president we do have and thank God that our president's name isn't Bin Laden, Hussen or any of the other dictators of this world.

Nearly half of America was not voting for Kerry but voting against Bush! Out of 115 million Americans that voted, over 55 million could not bear another four years with Bush, so they voted for an obvious douche who at the very least has a chance of being less evil. Doesn't that seem odd to you? Doesn't that divide America?

If you want stupid, goofy religious men running your country, vote for the Taliban.

On a final note, I leave you with this. Search for the word "issue" (Edit -> Find):
CNN Exit Poll Results

What matters most to from a president? If you said "Terrorism" you are a misinformed victim of propoganda. If you said "Moral Values" you must take into consideration that you are voting for a selfish purpose. Otherwise, you likely voted against Bush.

You either have a lifestyle like the unabomber, are a very apathetic human being, or are blind, deaf & mute.  There is division everywhere.  Watch the news.  Read the papers.  Pick up a magazine.  Get brainwashed by the left or the right.  But in the end whose ideals are  you listening to.... theirs or your own?  Wake up and smell the roses.

Give me a break.. saying the dead spouses and parents will thank us for dead soldiers/civilians.

I live in this country and I love it.  I have more freedom than anyone else in any other country, and I believe I have a strong leader.  Hearing you all whine about how Bush is "such a fucking idiot hick" is really tiring.

Are you all such sore losers that you cannot accept defeat?  More than 51% of the nation voted for Bush, which means he must be doing something right.  You have no right to insult the intelligence of your fellow American's, most of which who voted for Bush and probably played a key role in developing the medications and technology you use in your own homes.  You should be ashamed of yourselves.

As far as thanking us for dead soldiers, I only pose one comment for you.

If you're not willing to die for freedom, regardless of how many lives must be sacrificed, get out of the country, you freeloader.

Millions have died for our country, and if required, I'd put my life on the line.  You need to seriously reconsider your life.

75% of Kerry voters are society's bottom feeders.  Urban ghetto monsters that can barely qualify as human beings they are so low on the food chain.  The other 25% are snobby coastal elitists and half educated dimwits who only think they are intelligent.  You lefties should just face facts.  Conservatives are better than you in every way possible.  We are more intelligent, we dominate government at every level and nearly everywhere in America and we are physically superior as well.  With my military training as a Marine as well as all the training I have in my current capacity keeping American safe, I would venture to say that there's not a liberal alive that could physically best me ever!  All that would be left would be a puddle of blood and half digested tofu with a pair of Birkenstocks.  Get over yourselves and the election.  RE: Justice Prevails, for Sad, Scared Fools   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on November 5, 2004 10:23 AM

Sorry to disappoint you but the soldiers who died, died for you and all the others in America. They knew when they joined that there was always the possibility the would be sent to war, and die. They did so willingly. So when people talk about their children shouldn't have died, and it is a sad thing that happens, maybe they should have been open enough to discuss that possibility with their children BEFORE they signed up. There is no draft, therefore not mandatory. And as far as Bush lying to this country, I don't think so. He has admited to his faults and stood by his decisions whether you think they were good or bad and as Americans, we have a duty to stand behind him, no matter what your opinion is.

Lets stray from the mountains of lame "american pie" style insults and back to some "food for though".
The post September America went from "hunting down Al-Qaeda (sp?)" to "invading iraq to find Al-Qaeda camps etc" to "invading iraq to remove a WMD threat" to "liberating a country and securing freedom".
From an objective P.O.V., as much as can be, this is a stretch.

Since when are the WMD's in Iraq more dangerous than WMD's in Communist China, Comunist North Korea?

Since when are the people in Iraq needing freedom and a release from human rights abuses more so that other countries? Like Zimbabwe, North Korea and China (again), Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt etc.

The same Hussein was assisted by the US in the form of weapons etc. On TV!

The US has supported non-democratic regimes. The US is currently supporting a non democratic regime in Saudi Arabia, in the form of $20 billion foreign aid? What the? A known non-democratic state, that suppresses free speech, womens rights etc etc.
Why was IRAQ more of a threat to world peace than, say, North Korea?Or other "active" terrorist states like Syria, Iran, South East Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudia Arabia?
Or other non-democratic countries like Zimbabwe (have half of you heard about the atrocities that Pres' Mugabe has committed?
Some might say, look at what Iraq has than the other countries don't.
Food for thought.
And all without dropping to the level of a adolescent bully, a level where no one can honestly give you any credit.
Thanks for reading.

Ummmmm this is a very uninteresting subject and all but how about we get back to the reason I come to this site............movies. If you don't live in the US you can whine and complain all you want, they get to decide who they want for President, whether who they decide is what you like or not it simply doesn't matter. Your opinions will go down in history as rhetoric just like most others with the same.........So how about those movies?

RE: no you are stupid   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on November 6, 2004 12:39 AM

Setting aside your lack of grammar or a pertinent thought process, the President doesn't get the choice of going where he wants.  The Secret Service has a specific protocol to follow to ensure the safety of the government's leadership structure, which does not entail allowing the President or Vice President to charge on the tip of the sword into battle.  So, try again but with some intellgence (I'll bet you live in a blue state don't you)

"Thats whats wrong with you goofs you think no one in America can think for themselves "

You're right, Include yourself in that too. I think most people simply chose the evil they know over the evil they don't. America has forgot that our system *is not a 2 party system* All of you need to open your eyes. I didn't elect Bush, and I didn't vote for Kerry either. I voted for Micheal Badnarik. Does anyone who voted here even know who that is or what party he ran with? Did you even see his name on the ballot? Or were you so busy seeing Democrat and Republican that you were blinded to anything else. IF you sheep would do some research, and use your heads for something other than to hold your hair up, maybe this election could have been a turning point for our country. Maybe, just maybe, the next election could be a turning point. This country was founded on freedom of religion. Bush is turning this country into a fascist Christian regime. He's turning people of this country against each other based on religious beliefs. And now because of all the sheep who can only see the 2 main parties, he will continue to do so for four years. Some of you may like the idea of a Christian regime. Good for you. Go buy an island and make your own government. This is America. We've made too much progress over the last 100 years, and if it keeps up the way it is, it's going to degenerate and fall apart before our eyes. Attention sheep! Think for yourselves. Look and see what the other parties stand for. You may just find one that more closely matches what you see for our future.

Yeah and 5 out of the 30 on that list are partly or fully under the control of England. If they were truly democracies, they would all be under their own power. So what kind of freedom is that, that you are bragging about? We decided we didn't want to be The United States of New Brittain.. oh a bit over 200 years ago. Stuff it on that subject wanker. Oh and lest I forget, the "free" citizens of most of those countries are not allowed to own a gun, so the crime rates are ridiculous.. Oh please Mr. Criminal who doesn't care about the gun ban sir, don't shoot me, just let me get my butter knife to defend my home and family... You are so full of it. We don't think we are the only country with full freedoms. We KNOW it.

"Yeah and 5 out of the 30 on that list are partly or fully under the control of England."

Which ones retard boy.
You really don't have aclue about anything outside America do you?
Lets have a look at the obvious ones your going to consider.
Ireland. No they are quite Independant (the Republic of Ireland remember?)
Canada because its in the Commonwealth yeah well the Commonwealth doesn't do anything these days really so once again your wrong.

And as for your personal freedoms to own guns and thus high crime rates well your wrobg first people can own guns in Britain but there heavily liscenced.

Hand guns are banned and lets see oh yes we have one of the lowest gun crime rates in the world behind other countries who have banned guns, what a surprise no guns legally means few shootings who would have thought it....

Heard of Dunblane, some twat shot a load of kids in a school in England and since then hand guns have been banned has it happened since. No.
While in America.... well lets say you don't catch on quick do you.

If you rally think you are the ONLY country to have true freedom then your more paranoid than Bush, who at least talks about the free world.

Oh yes very free the old bying a gun before you can have an alcholic beverage.  No wonder the Americans at my UNI can't handle there drink or should I call it alcholic piss (Budwiser what a joke)

I was in NY over the summer and all the kids were in the park unable to  have a cool one but don't worry the friendly drug dealers were there to help.  Thats right its official its easier to get cocaine or marajuna than it is to go into a bar and get a beer.

Ah yes wise wor...

Well except for this: http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/

I'm a fiscal conservative, and I can't believe that people don't see the harm in the giant deficits that are being created year after year in the US. Wake up people; someone is going to have to pay for it.

Also, I don't understand why people throw around the terms "liberal" and "conservative" to define the two political parties. If people actually bothered to go look up the economic plan that Kerry had in mind one will see that it was pretty conservative, but alas I don’t think enough people in the US actually care about politics to read up on them.

I grow tired of people citing anti-Bush = anti-American. Maybe they just don't want to see the US suffer under the weight of its own debt, like it will if we continue to spend these giant deficits. The "well its 9/11's fault!" will only work for so long until you actually research what these deficits are being spent on, and find that 9/11's economic impact continues to diminish with each passing year as our debt continues to spiral out of control.

I would also imagine that more people understand what our debt will do if it continues to grow (like it is), who owns it, and how its tied to the global market than Americans themselves, again saddly.

More people in this country need to consider looking into politics, or if they are interested enough to major in a field related to them, so they can make more educated choices.

The fact that many people voted for Bush on the platform of "Morals" while saying that Kerry had a "better economic plan" scares me. What's more important right now? We don't have surplus to spend anymore, people.

It amazes me that so- called educated people could spew such trash.  And it comes from both directions,"liberal and conservative" alike.  Until you have read 2 or 3 newspapers a day, and the Wall Street Journal should be one of them; watched the news (you should rotate and even listen to FOX); and then catch what's being said on various talk radio stations; you haven't educated yourself enough to even open your mouth and talk.  Much less give your opinion on world affairs.  You shouldn't spew out everything that your red neck buddy happened to say last night, and you shouldn't believe trash that people like Michael Moore try to pass off as truth.  This is the condition of the people of this great nation.  Everyone has fogotten how to think for themselves and (HOLD ON) then exercise wisdom and discernment over the matters that concern their little lives.  We get all fired up about what we heard so-and-so say, and then charge off on a crusade to "do the right thing".

It would make me happy to imagine all these people waking up and being suddenly endowed with a dose of common sense, but somehow I don't see that happening.  So try this for a first step.  Talk less and listen more.

Not necessarily. When former Prime Minister Chretien first got in here in Canada, he won by a landslide. The main opposing party was decimated. But did that happen because he was so great a choice? No. It was because everyone hated former Prime Minister Brian Mulrooney. Worse yet, Mulrooney stepped down and wasn't even running against Chretien. Chretien won because Canadian voters wanted to make a point.

I'm not sure if that point was "We hate Brian Mulrooney", or if it was simply to prove we could be stupid too.

The point I am trying to make is, some of the people who voted for Bush just didn't want to vote for Kerry.

Alternatively, some people who voted for Kerry probably just didn't want to vote for Bush.

1. Bush/Rumsfeld knew Iraq had nothing to do with 9.11 and did not care.  The administration chose to launch an agressive war against a non-enemy.
2.  The US initially needed 90 billion in Iraq.  That was over a year ago, who knows how much bush has spent now.
3.  NPR reported today that victims of 9.11 have received a total of about 30 billion.  This includes insurance of businesses such as the owners of the twin towers.  The cost of the war is 3x the cost of the damage caused by (not Iraq) bin Ladin.
4.  3500 died in 9.11.  1500 US troops are dead in Iraq now.  Afganistan?  Anyone want to guess the date when the USA loses double, when 3500 have died in Iraq?

Bush goes to show that religion is in and of itself an evil thing.  Christian / Muslim / Satanist / Child Molester / Whatever.  Before you attack Bush, think of who re-elected him (followers of Christ) and what he represents and instead think how you have to fight those who have "religion".  For you religious voters, please see any book by Plato as to how good moral values have nothing to do with your particular religious fetish.

Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on November 9, 2004 8:52 PM

Nice to see the "faithful" are more concerned with a denuciation of religion than with the statistics I mentioned about Bush's blunders that are costing lives now.  This just reinforces the point that preoccupation with religion creates an evil effect.  By this I mean that taken as whole, religion has and does create more evil than good.

For the record, Nazi Germany's leadership was extremely religious.  Virtually all of the high command were church-going protestants.  See, their problem was that Jews killed Jesus.  Again religion.  Of course, it did not help that the Pope shipped train loads of Jews from Italy to Germany.

And attcking religion is not "old".  Your relativism as to ideologies is sad.  Find anyone who will agree with your implied assertion that Communist ideology was just applied incorrectly.  Some ideologies are just not good.

Bush is not popular around the world, but he's like a very effective schoolmaster:  None of the students liked him, but he kept things in order!  Face it, without Bush's aggressive actions, terrorists would be wreaking havoc worldwide, way way more than the little things we are seeing now. Terrorists are like beasts - they will attack you if they sense any weakness or hesitation.

N. Korea and Iran are much tougher nuts to crack than Iraq, so you knock out the easy target first; It is common strategy in chess and almost every thing in life, so no need to fret about why Iraq and not N.Korea.  We'll take care of them later.

Nazi Germany used religion to there own ends as oppposed to religion creating Nazi Germany.  Most of German high command was in to all sorts of strangness (occult genetic dominance theories etc etc) that singling one aspect of their twisted minds is wholly unproductive and misinformative.
My point about ideologies was that you can only ever look at there ideals not there application, thus most religions are good as they esspouse ideas that are for the benifit of society.
Your point that religion is evil looks only at extreme circumstances. You might as well say democracy is evil because of the crime within its society, or that teachers are evil because some teachers are child molesters.

Religion has done more good than evil, I guess all those orphanages, alms for the poor, comfort for the bereaved and hospitals were for nothing then, not to mention the art music which enriches our culture, the idea that you should help your fellow man etc etc.
The reason you see religion as a factor to many evil things is because religion is a factor in nearly everything good or evil, once again I must say it is  application that will generally make somthing evil.

Your statistics and opinions once again only depend on a particular point of view.
namely that the war on terror is just about catching and bringing to justice/killing bin laden and his cronies.  Clearly Bush sees the war on terror extending to those who activly harbour terrorists (which Iraq does) and those who condoned the 9/11 atrocities (which Iraq did).  It has been widely claimed that the US and Britain sold Weapons of Mass distruction to Iraq, it was not implausible then that Iraq might still have them so as for being a non-enemy well that is clearly wrong.  America had been blockading Iraq since the first war.  Since 9/11 it was clearly felt that the situation of having such an activly hostile nation in an all ready tense region was untenable.
Essentially the rest of your argument dependes on how much money has been spent on the war on terror basically your putting price on justice.  The reality is this if you choose to fight a war you fight to win that means you spend as much as you can to win the war quickly.
Equally your comment about lives lost is insulting and stupid just because 3000 innocents lost their lives does not equate to casualties in a war fought.  Once again you fight to win.
Your argument boils down to if only 50 soldiers die and it costs $10000 dollars then the war is ok but if it cosats to much well money is to important to waste,  how very mecenary of you.

Finally, if there is, possibily some kind of God or creator being then what kind of an being would he be to not let people into heaven unless they dovoted their lives to worshiping him. Why would it not simply be enough to live an honest and just life helping your fellow man? The whole thing is just an excercise in brainwashing.

Mate, just a couple of things in reply to your post.
You said "It has been widely claimed that the US and Britain sold Weapons of Mass distruction to Iraq" - this is no claim. Go to a library and look at the news paper / current affairs for the early eighties era. This happened. On TV. Shaking hands. So, "claims" is wrong.
Also, you mentioned, and support (?) this "America had been blockading Iraq since the first war.  Since 9/11 it was clearly felt that the situation of having such an activly hostile nation in an all ready tense region was untenable."
First of all, "blockades" do not work. You ban basic produce/medical etc to a country and who will suffer 1st. The poor plebs - the ones who do not need to be targeted and do not wield the power in a dictatorship - this is obvious. The rich will not feel the sanctions at all. It is probably better to place international sanctions on the shipment of caviar to Iraq - Saddam may have felt that more.
How can starving the innocent be humanitarian???
I would also again like to mention to you - what is the difference between Iraq, Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya and Israel. You mentioned "actively hostile nation" - mate, i hate to inform you of world matters but all the above countries are "actively hostile". So, what does Iraq have that the other countries don't? Saddam was performing these atrocities while rcving US and foreign military, financial and produce?
Dare i say the 'O' word.
Oil, boys and girls...
If you can factually, objectively and undeniably show a major reason why Iraq was singled out that doesn't involve oil, or the tenuous reason of harbouring terrorists (like all the other countries aforementioned do, and are "Active") - then i will accept your statement.
And so will the rest of the world - and not just the democracies.
Thankyou
Alistair

 Oil   > reply

O.K playing devils advocate here
Iraq wouldn't have been attacked for Oil for several reasons
(i) Not financially secure.  In this I mean that there are too many risks involved in getting Oil from Iraq.

First America needed to be sure it could win the war fullstop.  Obvious it seems but sever "war games " conducted some 4 months before the war did show several tactics the Iraqs could use to cause severe difficulties to US troops ( example using dozens of light boats to attack the more unmanouverable heavy ships).  This was of course unlikly and didn't occur but was still a concern.
Secondly assuming America could win the war it had to be sure it could win it quickly, for several reasons, first mounting cost that can lose you a war as quickly as casualties can.  Secondly world and domestic pressure would be against a prolonged conflict.

This has been seen.

Thus the political sacfrafice needs to have a sufficient payoff returns on Oil would have to be huge indeed to do this.

In addition a prolonged conflict increases the chance of the Oil pipes getting damaged.  Now the infastructure for Oil production pipes rifineries trucks ships etc is very expensive as normally its a one off payment, the engineers don't take into account war.
Therefore if any pipes get damaged or destroyed it would take long term and expensive methods to repair them payed by America while still fighting.
In short as is being seen at the moment Oil production won't be at full potential for months maybe years and the repairs are coming under American and to an extent British coffers. (remember the US can't force the Iraqs to pay even if they wanted to as they don't have the money).
Not only this but after the war ends possibly years from now America has to be sure that it is still in control enough to dictate who gets the Oil.
Not only that but will Bush be president when he starts getting the benifits of Oil?
If it is purly for personal (rather than national reasons ) to get Oil this seems slightly unliky as there are quicker ways to get Oil such as drilling in National reserve parks in Alaska, a far quicker return than a war.

Now don't get me wrong its not that I support Bush or even think that he wouldn't go to war for Oil but I do think he (or at least his advisors) are intelligent (I hate using that word in the same sentence as Bush) enough to realise that Oil and long term war doesn't equal money.

Which brings me onto my heading.
(ii) Alternatives to war.
If Bush just wanted Oil why go to war at all he could have buttered up Saddam given him reassurances that he would never be invaded and in return got some nice juicy trade agreements and for that matter why not have Saddam throw in a few scape goat "terrorists" and kabam one middle eastern country suddenly turns away from a course of terror America gets Oil Saddam gets to be president for lfe and the world thinks the US is marvoullous for being so peaceful.
Implausible? not really when you look at Libya they arn't quite so threatening anymore I wonder what deal has been struck there?
As for Saddam yeah he liked to portray himself as this big shot sstanding up to America but comeon he wasn't a religious nutter like Bin Laden he was a mercenary he would have gone along with a deal.

This is one alternative others include possibly throwing away the Alliance with the Saudi government and attacking them (way way more Oil)this one is a bit unlikly though.

(iii) Conclusion.
Now I think Bush is a bit of a warmongerer (a bit being overstatement of the year)but I don't think he attacked Iraq for Oil not because he wouldn't but because it wouldn't make any financial sense at least thats what I think I dunno if anyone has some outragous figures like the US is NOW at this moment shipping hundreds of looted oil to America then yeah I would agree but it just doesn't seem likly.

Why did he attack Iraq possibly the terrorists have given him the slip and he wanted to be seen to be doing something, possible vendetta for his dad (though I think the Bush family is too mercenary to allow this sort of thing to get in the way of money).

Maybe they did think there were waepons of mass dustruction there (ha ha).

I personally would go for the one that they just want to get a foothold in the middle east and as to attacking Iran or Syria well I think they probably will.
I am not sure that his war on terror is just about catching the terrorists who commited the attrocity of 9/11 but also about Westernising the Middle east so it can't happen again but if this is there policy then I don't think it is working but it is a reason why they would take over random countries in the region.

p.s this is a bit of a controversial post but please reply in a productive matter no need for random abuse.
I don't especially agree with Bush but I don't think the was for Oil.

Jewish people are both a race and a religion dumb ass.
And anyway lets have a look at your reasoning here Religion is evil, thus people who follow religion are evil, thus Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Issac Newton, etc etc are all evil?  These are intelligent people you can't just say they were brainwashed.
The other argument is that religion is evil but the people following it aren't this is stupid much like saying that murder is evil but murders aren't.

And as for worshiping Satan some people do they are call Satanists sherlock.

Good argument "what ever you say religion played a big factor" well yes good point apart from the fact that it is the most stupid argument since George Bush got to tegether with Tony Blair and said there were Weapons of Mass distruction in Iraq and that they should invade.  Or to put it another way your argument runs I don't care what you say I am right, thats nearly as pointless as "worshiping a big guy with a beard who lives in the clouds".

Yes an act of brainwashing despite living in a commercial athesit state with little or no financial or social incentive to practice religion clearly all those Christains in Britain Spain America and which ever other Democracy you want to name are clearly all being brainwashed and left to live out their lives in compounds.  Explain why Capatilisim isn't Brainwashing by the same argument? Oh heres one, because brainwashing is an over used word to expalin away why people don't live their lives how you want them to.

Mind you the internet just wouldn't be the same without sweeping generalised stements such as
Religion has done more good than evil.  Your argument rested on Bush is evil (subjective) his voters were Christian (generalised)
All Christians at all times must be evil (generalsied).
So what, all the rules a religion condones are evil, some of the rules what? I mean there are so many religions, yet you say they all have it wrong and are evil?
You can see where your argument falls can't you a Greek Pagan religion says there are forces which man doesn't understsand and they must be respected equally is that EVIL or just wrong or not even that, Quakers say fighting is wrong is that evil?

Your argument is one of someone who has watched too much popular history programmes and doesn't really understand religion or philosephy

Religion is for the weak, for those who do not have enough belief in themselves and what they can achieve. Its for those that refuse to take responsibility for their actions, its used as an excuse for many atrocities, genocide, torture, war, control of a population or people etc. Many, many bad things have occurred where religion has been a root cause, but many good things have also happened because of religion. Religion and politics have been intertwined for many hundreds of years, I believe that its time for religion and poiltics to seperate, politics will not disappear, not when there are so many different opinions held by people. But, religion has had its day, its time for humanity as a whole to grow up and take responsibility for itself, to leave religion behind, (as a child may leave the belief in santa claus, or the tooth fairy behind, when they reach adulthood, for example)its time to get rid of that which we do not need anymore. Its holding us back, we have to throw off the shackles of religion, to move forward and look to the future, there is progress to be made if we are brave enough...

 Hundred Years War   > reply

Do you Know about History?
The Hundred Years war was fought between the Catholic English and The Catholic French.  It was fought not over who had the better religion or even anything to do with religion but who had the best claim to the French lands.  Particularly around Calais and Anjou. Non Christians weren't involved at all, nor were were random Christian groups it had nothing to do with religion.
Sheessh you guys really can't come up with a good argument can you.
"Most of those wars had something to do with religion or were caused by relgion" blah blah name one and I will tell you why you are wrong.

I still don't know why none have you have mentioned the crusades yet its like the only war which you would actually have a decent argument and even then there are some vital counter aguments.

As for religion having its day well once again you haven't given an actual reason you have simply said politics and religion are both as bad (and good) as each other but religion is childish so we will leave it.  Your argument is incoherent.  None of you have actually any proof or facts just the same commonts endlessly repeating each other.

The argument is simple Religion initself is not evil as shown by religions which are aimed at the wellbeing of society.  However religion along with any other ideology can most definitly be used for evil.  This is a case for striving to uphold the original tenants of a religion or philosephy not for banning religion.
Democracy has its faults and has been applied badly in the past but we strive to make it better.  I don't see the difference.

Most religions except for Christianity can be considered "evil", since most of them support things which are immoral and anti-God, i.e they don't accept Jesus Christ as the Son of God. Unfortunately, the American government allows for this evil to take place. Some countries actually do the right thing and establish Christianity as the official religion, and ban some of the 'evil' religions.

 RE: Religion   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on November 12, 2004 9:40 AM

Highlighting the dark sides of religions easily prove that religion(s) is the source of evil. But we should also have to consider the contribution of the religions to building the civilizations and human dignity. It is true in the realms of religions there are/were many non religious group/persons who are doing and did many strange things including genocide to capturing others homeland. The most negative attributes ( not original ) of the conventional religions are -

· Intolerance : the hatred and persecution of people of different beliefs, even to the point of killing them.
· Obscurantism: opposing intellectual, artistic and scientific advances.
· Authoritarism : opposing intellectual artistic, social and political freedom
· Dogmatism: arrogant, stubborn assertion that what one believes is true.
· Narrowness : the view that only the members of a particular group will be saved while the rest of humanity is demand.
· Hypocrisy : preaching ethics while behaving in an antithetical manner.

After reading the above brief if we ask our self ``Are these religions` adjectives ?``, I don`t know your answer, but my answer is `NO`. By the name religion if nonreligious person/group do consciously or unconsciously any controversial activity(ies), I think it should not claim the religions itself, as we can`t claim the science when scientist make atom bomb like destructive weapons.

About the religions we can get a positive answer, if we go back in the root, and analysis the origin and purpose of religions. The word `religion` it self come form the Latin word `religere` meaning `to rebind` implying that although man is connected to God by creation, he has to bind himself back to God by his own choice. ( Although most people think religion always has something to do with God, Buddhism is the religion that does not believe in God.). As I understand, the main purpose of the religion is to establish : eternal ( God`s ) joy and happiness through the practice of true love. God (Universal Parent) become happy ( internally our original self ) when His children become responsible – citizen, husband-wife and parents in the family as well as responsible leader of society. When Heavenly Parent sees His children as a responsible His sufferings eliminate and human being enjoy eternal joy from absolute relationship. In this enjoyable circumstances I am sure we never can never deny the religion or can not blame as a source of evil. To resolve the blames against religions need to establish and practice the `The New Truth` which is the unique combination of science and religions, external and internal, physical and spiritual, visible and invisible.

However, by born we are religious, everybody has and inherit own and/or traditional religions by which way everybody going forward as their best. ` WE ARE HUMAN BEING, OUR RELIGION IS HUMINITY`. If we said religion is the source of evil, we can`t justify our position and dignity of existence also. I don`t like to consider the conventional religions as complete religion. In Old Testament era and New Testament era the life and societies were considerably governed on the basis of traditional religions, but now in this Complete Testament era advancing by Science and personal practices. Although science has established its higher-level success but not it also complete truth. Science represents only the visible part i.e. body of truth; and religion represents the mind of truth. Without mind/spirit the truth never can be completed. So there must need the establishment of complete truth through the unity of mind and body, religions and science.

This is the proper time to make ourselves as `religious more than religious` who don’t have religious identity ( just have one identity as a Children of God ) by practicing true love ( unconditional/ selfless love by practicing the universal parental serving and take caring others with responsibilities ) in personal life, in our family life and our societal life. In order to overcome the regions` evil tracks, I think it will be effective to promote the new terminology and original essence including God/ Allah .. I feel easy to address God as `Universal Parent`. If we really believe and practice on region(s), we must practice the universal family values considering all being especially human being as member of Global Family as like as our physical family members.

Everybody has desire and is working so hard to be happy by establishment of peace and harmony as well as human rights in the levels of lives as original desire. But we can not be doing because of conflicts ( we face conflict as we don`t have clear idea about evil and goodness, and about our position in which side ) between mind and body which extends from individual life to societal life along with family conflict; that most of case influence to national conflict and worldwide conflict by leaders` characters and decisions ( religious conflicts, political conflicts, tribal conflicts ). The conflict can be resolved only when we will be able to find a `common centre` (religions explain it as God centre). The concept about God also contaminated, as we explains and understand God in different way, some case partially, some case mistreated (based on self centre view point or own community traditions, not from universal view point). To find the common centre based on God`s love (universal true love ) the unity of religions as well as all moral and ethical ideologies is essentially required. This consciousness must need to raise that our seed is same, our source is same and our destination also same, just different our thinking and way.`

Good point.  I think it comes back to an early argument where religion is often in one form or another at the heart of everything.  Because of this we can't just ignore it but search in how best to apply it.

Back to the argument of Religions pushing it on people well part from the fact that its there fright of free speech I agree it can get blasted annoying but then its no worse than politician constantly canvasing, "no one believes you go away!!!"

 Gay.   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on November 13, 2004 2:38 AM

In the religions which frown on homosexuality they still say God loves gay people.  This is how the theory works-  Marriage is the context for sex to take place.  One of the prime reasons for marriage and expressing a husbands love for his wife and vice versa is the begining of a family.
A gay relationship can never have children naturally.  Thus can't marry.
Therefore although being gay in itself isn't wrong having sex outside marriage is.  Thus the same rules apply to a gay person as any other person.

The next question of course would be why can't gay people marry anyway does it matter that they can't have children?
Well of course this is the really controversial thing as any Americans will now looking at California.

Again the answer comes down to the fact that the one of the principle points of marriage is to begin a family.  This is coupled with the idea in most religions that forbid gay marriage that sex isn't the be all and end all of human existance human kind can live without it.  Priests themselves the ones actually formulating these rules are supposed to be celibate.

Thus the argument is reveresed, can you be gay without having sex.

People should be able to live their lives without constantly refering to the Bible as some sort of instruction manual on life. Having religion as a safty blanket isn't productive but you forget that some /many find religion a duty more than a security those that really devote themeslves to the poor for example.
I don't think to disregard it without evaluating the philisophical arguments (which have never been completly answered by either side) is productive.  As has been mentioned before religion has and will play a centeral role in human development.

It's not a good thing when we have so many wackos who become obsessed with religion and commit terrible acts in the name of it.

It's also not a good thing when we have people put into positions of power within religion who then abuse the trust that's been put into them by raping little boys.

Recount will happen in Ohio.  Should happen in Florida, but Jeb owns the state.  Bush cheated, sad but true.  Second time this.  Presidential election fraud is treason.  Penalty treason death.  It is time to take our country back.  Some one must step up to plate and do their duty as required by law and constitution.  Bush must go.  Those who allow his stealing of two elections are traitors also.  America, rise up.  Lets get going now.  Leave for washington. Hike, bike, fly, taxi, drive, it does not matter.  Bring your guns, knives, poison, rocks, broken bottles, fists whatever you have.  Take this country back now.  Leave today.  We can do it.  Must do it.  Treason not to.  We the people

Irrelevant in that it isn't an argument initself to critisise religion because it occurs outside religion.

Also Iran is a shit hole that will be destroyed just as easy you have nothing the western World doesn't.

CAN'T BELIEVE EITHER ARGUMENT. THOSE WHO FEEL DIVIDED ARE THOSE WHO WANT TO FEEL DIVIDED. THE CONSERVATIVE ARE THOSE WHO WANT TO BE CONSERVATIVE. ME? WELL, I WANT TO BE AND I AM CONSERVATIVE. I AM ALSO A PROUD CHRISTIAN!!!!!!!

KERRY WAS AND IS A VERY CLOSE RELATIVE OF PINOCIO AND SCARECROW.

If people want to believe in fantasy then I'm not going to stop them, I wouldn't go around telling little children that Santa doesn't exsist for instance. Just keep religion out of politics and schools and I'll be happy.

When you say keep religion out of schools do you also mean the schools which the church set up.  as in preety much every single one in Europe and North America?

I believe in a fantasy as well, you will finally realise your wrong and shut the fuck up. Stupid isn't it.

Come on, try thinking for yourself for once. We are now well into the 21st century and people are still trying to push irrational beliefs on impressionable youth. Kids are particularly vulnerable to irrational beliefs that are told to them by adults. They are taught at a young age that they should be subservient to the adults in their lives. They should be taught that being a critical thinker and searching for the truth on their own is of utmost importance. The search for the truth and giving people the necessary skills to search for that truth is what education is all about.

Whats your point both sides are saying that?
Simply saying that atheisim or religion is an irrational belief is contradicting yourself, as you are assuming you already know the truth.

 RE: Schools   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on December 4, 2004 2:33 PM

Atheisim is just a term that religious people made up to descibe all us 'non-believers'. That and heathens, infidels, etc. You want to believe in some kind of all powerful creator being? Fine, but as someone who sees these beliefs as mis-guided I don't want to see them having any influence on the way all of us 'Atheists' live our lives. Practice it in Churches or your own homes but keep it out of schools and politics.

 RE: Schools   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on December 5, 2004 3:19 AM

uh actually heathen is someone who practiced the old pagan religions and infidel described a Christian or Muslim depending on your standpoint.
The problem with your argument is that it is completly undemocratic of what society may want not to mention  potentially completly negleglecting the needs of ethnic minorities.
You want to calm down mate, have a beer, relax. Your going to be dead by the time your 30 if your not careful.

 RE: Schools   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on December 6, 2004 4:24 AM

And I suppose I'm going straight to hell right?

 RE: Schools   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on December 6, 2004 6:29 AM

Uh..what are you talking about...I have to go now on a completly unrelated incident.

Why do you think your going to hell? are you suicideal? Have I spelt that right? Does any one care ?

I just said to calm down, go to the fridge and get a beer I suggest a low calory one as otherwise it may damage your over worked heart.
Alternativly go for a warm real ale.  I would recomend Santas Tipple which is both refreshing and seasonal.

Look all I can say on the subject of religion is that if you continue with these heated arguments against peoples way of life your going to get an ulcer, your not changing anyones beliefs, so sit back with that cool beer and relax.

There doesn't that feel alot better.

BUT REMEMBER low Calory beers SHOULD only be drunk for health purposes otherwise go for a full on beer.  A larger (I would avoid Budwiser and Becks concentrate on Stella Artois or Carlsburg) if need be but Preferably a Stout or Bitter. Better yet if you can handle it go for a Ale.

 RE: Schools   > reply

Oh really?  Wait a second are you American in which case I'm sorry to say that your beer does taste like piss.
I wonder what beer John Kerry and George Bush drink.

So what alcholic beverage do you drink?

 RE: Schools   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on December 9, 2004 3:55 AM

Alcohol is an aquired taste and I've never bothered to drink enough to aquire the taste.

 RE: Schools   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on December 11, 2004 7:30 AM

seriously?  Fair enough in that case I would suggest southern comfort and lemonade to get you started.  EMM if you don't like alchaol then be liberal with the lemonade and plenty of ice. I would suggest one part Southern Comfort for every 3 parts lemonade and at least three ice cubes.

That will go down a treat, though I have to warn you its a bit of a feminine drink, so you may want to lower the lemonade over time to get it so you can drink the Southern Comfort neat.

Also if you are under 21 in America (unlucky what a crap law) go to a grocery store its well easy to buy booze without being ID'd

 RE: Schools   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on December 11, 2004 7:44 AM

I just don't see the point of it all mate, I've never really gotten into the whole drinking culture thing. It seems that Britain is the only country where drinking is considered a sport (You know, "I've had 15 pints and 6 shots!" "Well I've had 20 pints, 8 shots and a bottle of wine so I win!") and I just don't get it. What's fun about going out and downing so much booze that you end up passing out in your own vomit at the side of the road?

 RE: Schools   > reply
Posted by Niq Bell (niqbell@hotmail.com) on January 6, 2005 1:51 AM

Well the thing is winning in drinking isn't so much how much you drink as who stays up the longest, the ones who collapse on the side of the road are the losers, the winners stagger home.

Think of it as an marathon test, but using your brain gut and liver instead of your legs.
