IFC and John Malkovich Join Forces

In yet another nod toward the growing convergence between the film industry and the Internet, The Independent Film Channel and John Malkovich's production company, Mr. Mudd, are teaming up to produce original short films for IFC's Web site and cable TV channel.
Emphasizing well-written scripts and fun material, the people who run both IFC and Mr. Mudd are savvy enough to understand that by using the Web, they have an opportunity to reach international markets, whose Internet usage is growing as fast, or faster, than that of the United States.
Joe Cantwell, IFC's executive vice president of new media, notes the heart of the arrangement between the two entities lies in the development of a slate of new shorts to be made in DV format and based on original scripts.
"We want to utilize the talent in Mr. Mudd's circle of friends," he says, referring to the array of actors, writers and directors already aligned with the company, "to create a number of different series and develop a variety of ideas episodically."
The series thus far will include episodic short comedies, as well as animations and eclectic nonfiction projects. Read More...
