A Canadian Film gets "best foreign film"
By Jack on January 13, 2000 10:43 AM
Executives at Lions Gate Films were "stunned" when their film, The Red Violin, was nominated in the "best foreign film" category by the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. for its Golden Globe awards, columnist Liz Smith reported Thursday. Ordinarily, Canadian-produced films are not included in the foreign-film genre (Lions Gates' Gods and Monsters was among the best film nominees a year ago.) As Smith points out, "It's not really a foreign film. Most of the movie is in English. It features characters in the U.S., using a hodgepodge of different languages and accents."
