No Hindi Movie Hits for 1999?
By Jack on January 4, 2000 3:18 AM
Not every one is breaking world records in the film industry; Movies made for the Hindi-speaking audience provided Indian producers with their worst-ever year, according to The Times of India. Increasing production costs and the greater penetration of videos, cable TV and foreign channels have resulted in a sharp decrease in movie attendance, the newspaper reported. Although 130 films were released during 1999, none were breakthrough national hits (though a few succeeded regionally), and some were reportedly withdrawn within the first week of release due to lack of an audience.
