By Jack on November 25, 1999 11:20 AM
Films from 47 countries have been submitted to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for consideration as the Best Foreign Language Film of 1999. According to the Academy, this marks the first year that Bhutan, Nepal and Tajikistan have submitted films for consideration. The Academy accepts one film from any particular country, with the movie submitted selected by a jury of filmmakers from that country. AMPAS' Foreign Language Film Award Committee, chaired by producer Mark Johnson, will select the five nominees. The Academy Award nominations will be announced on February 15, 2000 and the awards will be presented on Sunday, March 26, 2000.
