 Movie Attendance Sets 40-Year Record

More movie tickets will have been sold by the end of this year than during any year since 1959 - 1.6 billion, the National Association of Theatre Owners said on Wednesday. Yesterday's Daily Variety quotes outgoing NATO president William F. Kartozian as saying, "For decades prior to 1994, pundits insisted that the movie theater industry was stagnant... Again and again, we would read that total admissions are flat, stuck at about one billion annually. In five short years, these perceptions have been effectively vanquished."
