IESB got a chance to talk with Kevin Spacey ("American Beauty") about
the rumors that he is going to play Lex Luthor in the upcoming "Superman" film that is being directed by Bryan Singer ("X-Men"). Here is the definitive answer regarding Spacey's role in the future of the film. Sort of.
"I was approached to do it," was his response when asked repeatedly about the rumors.
Spacey was able to say definitively that he has not yet worked on the film--in script readings or otherwise--but would not (or could not) comment any further.
His confirmation that he has been approached to do the role and his reluctance to discuss the matter further could be a sign that the deal is being ironed out, but there may be more in the way than just regular deal-making.
Despite having interest in the project, Spacey seemed concerned about fitting the film into his schedule. He is Singer's top choice for the role, however, so perhaps the scheduling won't be as much of a conflict as he thinks.
