With the casting of the new man of steel all but set in stone, there remains plenty of room for us to circulate rumors about who will play his nemesis. IESB is reporting that Kevin Smith and "other reliable sources" know who is director Bryan Singer's number one choice for the role.
According to IESB, Kevin Spacey ("The Usual Suspects," "American Beauty") is Singer's pick to play the villain. The studio and Singer have decided to go with an unknown for Clark Kent, but aren't so grassroots when it comes to Lex, apparently.
Now, some of you may remember Kevin Spacey playing Dr. Evil in the movie-within-the-movie in "Austin Powers in Goldmember." If not, here's a refresher:
A little involuntary screen test to play Lex Luthor, perhaps? Singer and Spacey also worked together in the 1995 film "The Usual Suspects" and word has it that Singer has been itching to get Spacey back into a main role in one of his films ever since.
As of right now, there is no official word on anything, of course, but the "reliable sources" of IESB expect an official announcement real soon. We will see.
