McG off SUPERMAN!!! Updated!
By Charley on July 11, 2004 10:13 PM
Director McG ("Charlie's Angels") is officially off of the new "Superman" movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter. WB has listed McG as the director all along, but rumors have been far and wide regarding who would be directing the man of steel, particularly after an internet rumor linked Michael Bay to the project. A spokesperson confirmed that McG is out, but who will replace him?
According to the trade, the WB spokesperson claimed that McG and the studio parted amicably. The reason for the change is several disagreements between the studio and the director. Shooting location and casting were chief among those.
As of this posting, no director has officially been chosen to replace McG, but it is being speculated that the previous rumor may have been a premature press release. The IMDB "Superman" page seems to think so. That does not prove it is true, considering that any registered user can affect that database, but it might be a preview of news to come.
UPDATE: A few web sites are reporting that WB has approached several people with the intention to talk directing. Beside Michael Bay, the list is as follows: Bryan Singer ("X-Men" series), Robert Rodriguez ("Desperado"), Jonathon Frakes ("Thunderbirds" [upcoming]), Rob Cohen ("XXX"), and David Goyer ("Batman Begins" writer). Again, no one is set in stone, but it would be surprising to see Bay at the helm, considering his comments about "Superman" not being his type of project. Goyer was hired to do rewrites on the script, but is apparently taken such a liking to the character that the studio is interested in his vision of the film as a whole. Meetings have been set up with all of these potential directors, according to Superman-V.
A look at Filmforce reveals that Singer was offered the directing job sometime last week. According to that article, Singer is still considering the offer.
More "Superman" news as it develpos.

It is a perfectly human and natural reaction to despise anyone named McG. The name sounds like a failed hamburger theme launched by McDonald's in an attempt to reach an urban demographic. McG directed Charlie's fucking angels. Thank god he won’t be disgracing the Superman saga. In fact, the only thing 'super' about McG is the size of the drink that comes along with him… “I’ll have a McG with cheese and a fo shizzle shake, yo.”

Ebert? Roper? Now I know you're an idiot. Those two corporate whores couldn't tell a midpoint plot point from a denouement. Not that I don't like Spider-Man. But to say "Would Ebert and Roper have given it two thumbs up..." is a freakishly inane argument.

It is obiously a very good movie otherwise it wouldn't have made $257 million dollars in only 12 days. Being the quickest film in history to reach $200 million in only 9 days.

So far Spider-Man 2 has been the only comic based movie that has been the most faithful to the comics you jerk.

Look, I love Spiderman 2 but the fact that lots of people have to to see it doesn't automatically make it a good movie.

the first one was WAY BETTER! there was an origin story. parker discovered his special powers in a fight at school. then the cage match. it was suspensful.
spidey 2 was good, but WAY TOO predictable. no surprises. it was just quite boring compared to the first one.

I disagree it had to be predictable if it's based on the comic since everyone has already read the comics it would be pretty predictable.
