 Michael Moore Hates America: A new documentary

Michael Wilson, an amateur filmmaker and serious fool, has decided to make his own documentary as a benign, unprovocative counter point to Michael Moore's controversial films.According to the official website:
Contrary to its title, Michael Moore Hates America isn’t a hatchet job on the filmmaker. It’s a journey across the nation where we meet celebrities, scholars and average folks alike, all of whom are living the American Dream and proving that America is a great place to be! In the process, we’ll look at Michael Moore’s claims about the country, its people, and our way of life.
Beside moonlighting as a Backstreet Boy impersonator, aspiring filmmaker Wilson plans to have his pro-American, anti-Moore film in theaters around the same time as Moore's next film, "Farenheit 911." As Wilson's news section has not been updated in a month, it is unclear whether or not he will succeed with that goal, but perhaps the delay by Miramax to release "Farenheit 911" will help his cause.
Whatever comes of it, most Americans eagerly await the potentially pseudo-patriotic drivel and hope to remain yes-men who not only board the propaganda train, but help shovel the coal to keep its engines pumping.

Two things.
No one said it wasn't ok for Wilson to make his little movie. If he and his sympathizers (you) don't like criticism, you ought to not have any opinion at all. Moore and his sympathizers take the exact same type of needling and don't come back with non-arguments like, "Why can you say your piece when we don't have a voice?"
Which brings me to the second point: Moore's movies may be biased, but they are fresh, unlike the "potential pseudo-patriotic drivel" that Wilson appears to be chopping together.

Don't you think you should give Wilson the courtesy of seeing his movie first before you label it "pseudo-patriotic drivel"?
At least I saw Moore's "Bowling for Columbine" before I labeled it "Crap". Or if it will make you feel better: "Fresh Crap".
This is the point that I am making. I am not an apologist for Wilson. I could care less if you criticize Wilson's movie. I just believe that every one has a right to be heard. I think Moore's "Farenheit" movie should be shown. I am just saying that we have a tendency to judge before the product is placed out there. Give it a chance.
What does it matter if you dislike criticism or not? Who does like criticism? You are still entitled to your opinion about the matter. Besides Michael Moore gives as good as he gets (i.e. Oscar Night 2003).

I just have one question - Do you realize that Michael Moore's films are full of lies and twisted facts? I enjoyed Bowling for Columbine -I agree - very "fresh" but it is just entertainment. I actually had someone tell me it didn't matter if he lied - the message is what really mattered. That's fine, but then it's not a documentary. Anyway, there is spin on the left and on the right. I hope MMHA doesn't turn into the same thing. If it's honest, at least I can respect that.

Yes, I realize that every documentary is biased.
I'm also not that big of a Moore advocate--I thought "Bowling" was okay at best.
My point was that Wilson's movie looks about as fresh and interesting as the new "O'Franken Factor" radio show and along those same trite lines, as well.
Also, the first post below that says it was from Wilson really was from WIlson--I spoke with him over email. The second was someone's joke.

I have no problem with the documentationalist filmmaker-man you all know as Michael Madsen. Many of you believe that I am opporationalised to his movie but this could not be further from the truth. In actual fact I own all of his movies on video. I especially like the one where the mermaid wants to become human and the nasty witch takes away her voice. In summumification I would like to reiraqiate that I would like nothing more than to see this movie releasified and I look forward to seeing the continued adventures of all those cool cartoon characters.

Michael Moore has no trouble producing and releasing his craptacular propaganda pieces due to his unlimited funds. What about the rest of us whose opinions differ from Moore's, but don't have the resources (or connections) for a reasonable rebuttal? That's where Wilson comes in. He's relied completely on his own money and numerous small donations from people like myself. His upcoming flick will act as a voice for the rest of America - people who love this country but don't have the overflowing bank accounts of those who despise this country (basically, everyone in Hollywood). If the 20-minute standing ovation in FRANCE wasn't enough to convince you that this fat prick aligns himself with people who hate America, then I don't know what to tell you. I notice that nobody has bothered to challenge his "creative" editing (changing the sequence of actual events to make it appear as if they happened in a different order than they actually did, a process used extensively in Bowling for Columbine), misrepresentation of facts, and the ommission of other facts that don't support his twisted agenda. Michael Moore stated himself that his films are opinion pieces, not documentaries. He has every right to spew forth his vile hatred - and Mike Wilson has every right to challenge him on the big screen.

Michael Moore is not only a low-rent hypocrite, but also an idiot of epic proportions. If he had any brains at all he would take a moment out of his busy schedule of press interviews and such, stop running from Mike Wilson, and give him an interview. For god's sake, he not only makes himself look like a bigger jackass than he already has, but by avoiding Mike Wilson he's made it pretty clear that he wants nothing do with being in the hot seat and defending his 'work' - even if it is just for a few mintues.
It's not only hypocritical, but simply a bad move (PR-wise)
One would think that Moore, who claims to be 'a man of the people', could at least take a few moments out of his busy schedule and give a fellow filmaker a few moments of his time - especially since the filmaker has apparently offered 5% of the films profit to an Elemetary school in Flint, Michigan just for his time.
I'm just a working class nobody, but seems like 'a man of the people' could spare a few minutes to help out the kids of Flint.
In fact, it seems like that a 'man of the people' would make it priority to help out....the people - especially students that really want to hear him speak. Yet, he seems to have no real interest in doing that whatsoever - not unless he's getting paid fat-cat dollars. I think they call it 'kocking a gift horse in the mouth', or 'getting too big for your britches.'
In fact, he not only won't give them his time, he wants to charge them thousands for the 'man of the people' schtick.
- Cornell Univ: $10,000
- U of Texas: $25,000
- Penn State: $15-20,000
- Kansas Univ: $30,000
This is what I don't get, and why Moore will eventually choke on his own hypocrisy. With his credibility already seriously in question, wouldn't it be a smart move to put the greed aside (just for a little while) and go talk to students without charging them an arm and a leg -- where he can preach his propaganda to thousands without it costing him a cent? Career-wise it's simply a brain dead move.
Furthermore, why does this 'man of the people' boast about being a multi-millionaire, send his own daughter to private school (why bother to send her to public school with everyday commoners and the working class?), and live in a 1 million dollar NY apt?
Don't get me wrong - I think that if you work for your money and make it, you should be able to spend it any way you want to. After all, it's the American way. I also think that you should be able to make documentaries criticizing fat-cats that affect us all - keeps everyone in line. That's also the American way. As an artist, I also don't support censorship - political or otherwise. I think if he wants to make movies about fat-cats and politicians/George Bush until the stars burn out, more power to him. But why not practice what he preaches instead of buckling under greed the first chance he gets?
I mean, for chrissakes, it's not like his work is any major achievment. Publically smearing wealthy big-wigs (especially politicians) is like shooting fish in a barrel. With the exception of legwork and a weak imagination, Moore's work is about as rough as walking to the mailbox in the morning.
In fact, Moore is proving himself to be the poster-child for misinformation and tired conspiracy theories. While I think Mike Wilson's film is long overdue, I also understand that with or without it Moore will do himself in. You can only lie to people so blatently before even your own fans get sick of hearing your BS, and will no longer pay you to spoon feed your lines of tired crap anymore. MMoore will be die by his own hand from choking on his own hypocrisy.
Sooner or later his fans will wake up and realize that their hero, who has made millions off them by creating films about the sins of wealthy, big-wig white guys, is himself a ------------------ hey, guess what?

I don't think the issue is "lefties vs righties". It's truth vs. untruth. Michael Moore has presented a lot of untruth to an impressionable public too stupid to base their understanding of our country on something more substantial than a hollywood flick. Ask all of our country's representatives who actually are holding influence in America if Michael Moore is preaching the truth. I think many would be surprised by how few "lefties" stick up for him. There was a lot of mention of the top 1% of the country, (both in the context of being patriotic, and the reverse), but no one mentioned that Moore is almost certainly in that top 1%, as (which was mentioned) are all the people who advocate his films so freely in the celebrity press. Moore is a disgrace, he acts all high and mighty, fighting the evil empire, while slandering people who have actually got off there (fat) piles of money and done something about America, like Heston. I think this film is a much needed reminder, that just because something says documentary it is not always the truth. Moore needs to make a decision, he's a comedian or he's a truthfull documentary maker. Either he should amend Bowling for Columbine, or he should shove that oscar where the sun don't shine, because there is no way in hell Bowling for Columbine should have been elidgible for the "documentary" oscar.
p.s. author is a UK student, who is BEGGING that Bush gets chucked out of office, I just dont think Moore should fund his munchies raking in the money he recieves from championing a popular cause.

First of all, sorry about my english - I'm a brazilian guy. You see, the US aren't that popular anymore in the world. Here, there's people who would love to spit right in middle of Bush's eye. And Moore's film are helping to show the world how disgusting and false is the american government. The US is fine by me, in fact, I'm happy for such country had existed, because wihtout America, much of my favorite songs and musicians wouldn't have existed. But the american GOVERNMENT, aaaah... That's different. Hiroshima, Chile, Panama, Cuba, Middle-East, etc... You guys have a lot of things to be ashamed of. I mean, really, a lot. And what the hell was all that stuff for Reagan's death? He was almost as stupid as any Bush! Oooh, but he died, so, as patriotic and proud americans as we are, we must honor his memory and remember only the (few) good things he did. Yeah, right. He might saved your frightened people from the mighty comunist menace of the 80's (i'm being ironic on the "mighty menace"), but all those people he slayed in Latin America... Makes me wanna puke. Look at some of the people interviewed for Michael Moore Hates America. One of them is Penn Jillette -- not exactly known as a Bush supporter, though he DOES criticize Moore's tactics. Another is a Moore fan.
Moore is famous for splicing together pieces of different speeches to change their original meaning, as well as using precise quotes, but in a way so as to create a false impression. For example, he interviews a Lockheed employee in front of a US Air Force missile, telling his audience it is an ICBM (in reality, it is a booster for a sattelite).

It's not just about taking a crack at Moore, but exposing the distrustful nature of documentary films. Both people like Moore and Ann Coulter twist the truth to get their message across. It's not about the truth, it's about getting your political agenda across. For example, everyone blasted Bush when he used 9/11 footage in his promotional ads, but who blasted Moore when he exploited those dead and wounded kids in "Bowling for Columbine" to get K-Mart to crack under the pressure. How about that little cartoon in BFC when he tried to imply a link between the KKK & the NRA (which, if you know your history, is a ridiculous claim)? Don’t forget that disgusting interview when Moore flashed that little, dead girl's photo in Chuck Heston's face (implying that he was somehow responsible for her demise) and them made those implications that he was a racist. This man marched along side Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. back in the Civil Rights Era and now Moore thinks he can insult my intelligence by making me believe this slander? Moore may seem like he's just after the truth, but he's really just taking you for a ride, just like any other piece of right-wing propaganda.
Now, there are a lot of people in this forum saying things along the side of "Moore is out looking for the truth; this guy is short-minded and trying to only smear his name with mud". Listen to yourselves and tell me how you're any different from the same people who say things like "Bush is only trying to fight to preserve freedom and justice; you're only supporting terrorism". You can't. You're the exact same person, just on the other side of the political spectrum.

Moore's point in Bowling for columbine is an exploration into why this country seems to be so much more violent than others. A knowledgeable approach to history reveals many more connections between the NRA and KKK regardless of how many Union presidents and soldiers or african american groups were part of the NRA. There is no twisting of the truth in Moore's suggestion that upon the KKK's denunciation by U.S. law, many of its members turned to the NRA for organizational purposes. Ask Terry Nichols. Ask any white supremacist organization. Naturally, Heston and others would not want to appear to be racist, less they be declared a terrorist organization and have to start another new organization. My advice, don't hold your breath waiting for that to happen. If he can skate by the next 3 weeks, he'll have seen the life expectancy of the films theatre run, and will gladly hide and wring his hands greedily, not to be seen again until Oscar night. Then he'll triumphantly clutch his prize for best "documentary" for his latest tour de farce.
Maybe he's learned after the last fiasco, and won't try to get the other real documentary producers / directors to come onstage for a big, Lynard Skynard style group bow & hand-holding session afterwards as they look at him in disgust for receiving the documentary Oscar for being the phony with the biggest film budget and political agenda that mirrors Hollywoods majority. It's called "staged scenes" and "selective/creativeediting". It's actually really easy to make a someone look bad, even stupid, in a documentary. Hell, if some really wanted to they could make Mother Teresa (not Heinz) look bad. The ultimate example of this was "Bowling for Columbine". If watch it and actually pay a little bit of attention, it's easy to notice the glaring inconsistancies and bizarre editing errors made.

There are no facts in 911. It is 90% lies. That's right, outright lies. There are several web sites that have the proof and interviews with people Moore interviewd. One big one, Moore claims no connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda. There is a ton of PROOF to confirm the link. Therefore MOORE LIED.

Oh, and by the way, the electoral vote system IS constitutional. Until the constitution is ammended to change election procedures.
It's a great system too. Thanks to the electoral system, the parts of America that still have some sanity don't have to collectively suck butt to New York and LA, which would otherwise be able to pretty much dictate how the rest of us live our lives. That was the intent of the great compromise, the Senate (based not on poplulation but on the premise of all states having a voice) and the house (based on population). It ensures that small states aren't completely relegated and spit upon.
God Bless the system, which has resulted in the greatest nation on earth.

After reading several pages on this site brimming over with acid-tinged self-righteous litanies of jingoistic hate-mongering from both sides of the political mudpit; after being subjected to countless assertions that America is the "Greatest Nation on Earth" because we keep the world free (or other such nonsense) followed by foul and loathsome epithets hurled at anyone who feels that freedom should include the right to have a differing opinion; after reading dozens of inaccurate interpretetions (from both sides)of world events clenched in partisan fists and foisted as some sort of justification for possessing incredibly closed minds and tacit entitlement to tell everyone outside the mental doorlock to go fuck themselves - individually or collectively; I can only state that I for one do not have all the answers, and I am willing to admit that.
However, I do have a conscience and that conscience tells me that the slogan "Freedom is on the March" is tragically ironic, and that there is a fundamental problem with the current American world view.
Regardless of the horribly stereotyped and nationalistic slurs showered upon those international posters brave enough to try and have a say on this board, other nations have valid and intelligent contributions to make to the world. They are not lackeys who exist simply to consume our goods and enforce our politcal agenda while secretly wishing they could be us. To make such assertions is laughably narcissistic and only helps solidify the stereotype of "Ugly Americans" that we have given to ourselves through our decades-old policies of myopic aggression and general disregard for the opinion of the world community.
To further wrap the political argument in a religious shroud only occludes the issues further, and again is terribly misplaced. How can one claim rational objectivism and resort to subjective religious rhetoric as proof of an argument? Especially when those supposedly morally-based retorts are so blatantly immoral? The militant Christian posts on this board do not exactly scream "love thy neighbor" or "turn the other cheek." They only scream "Do unto others, FIRST!"
What I do observe throughout these pages, and indeed throughout all the levels of human interaction which I have recently been party to, or otherwise made aware of, is a generalized state of panic.
What else would cause normally sane and respectful folks to lash out with such venomous fervor at others who are essentially the same as themselves? The need to demolish others only reveals the fundamental fear beneath. Demonizing others is just a way of justifying rage and "giving a face" to fear.
Pundits and Doomsayers on all sides would have you believe that this election will decide the course of human evolution, that the opposing camp has the personal endorsement of Satan and all Four Horsemen, and that their candidate is the only hope for Life As We Know It to continue anywhere in the known universe, but that is just the Fear getting face time.
We are a powerful nation, yes. We have been at the forefront of many important advancements for all of mankind-yes. We have, however, gotten our hands more than a little dirty more than a few times. This is not a matter of opinion, but of fact. To deny that such transgressions have occured is to be naive to the reality of "nationbuilding." To think that the world owes us unswayed admiration simply because we feel that we "are the greatest" is ridiculous at best, and actually quite dangerous when considered in the long view.
After 9/11, the world rallied to our side, felt our pain, and reached out it's collective hand in support and in the spirit of community. Photos poured in from all corners of the world, not just those member nations of the "Coalition of the Willing." The same nations that are now told they are despised because their view differs from ours. It is precisely this sort of nearsighted international vision, that creates an environment which breeds the terrorist agenda. It is exactly the same sort of closed-mindedness exhibited by too many people on this board.
I post this not as an attack, but as an appeal. Everyone has good and bad ideas. Everyone has hope and anger in their heart. I would only hope that as free-thinking citizens of the self-styled "most civilized" nation on earth, we could discuss such matters, intelligently and repectfully, without needing to disparage and destroy the opinions of others.
In other words, I challenge us to prove just how "civilized" we truly are, right here on this board.
Now, let's see how long it takes for some rabid flame-thrower to tell me to go fuck myself, and just prove me right.

Buy soap now, the price is sure to skyrocket now that Fatboy aka Michael Moore has decided to bathe. I'd like to see a large aircraft, like a C-5A Galaxy, filled with Hollywood commies like Moore, Robert Redford, Babs, that dumpy Garafalo chick, Oprah, Paul Newman, Willy Nelson, and Carrot Top (just for fun) flown directly into the side of a mountain in Siberia and then have the crash site shelled with mustard gas and napalm. Oh and by the way I am English, i have seen all the films in question and totally believe Mr Moores interpretation of events. I am not anti American on the contary, i agree Iraq should have been burned to the ground, but for the right reasons. Bin Laden could have been caught, we have a little service called the SAS which take care of things like that very well.
My question, if im honest is, why oh why are Americans so arrogant, in so much as believing it is the best nation on earth? After all you should remeber you are the spawn of the English. Independance, yes, but its like sending away your abusive parent, you have you life back but can never forget its they who made you what you are today. Never forget it.
