By Power-trip on October 10, 2001 12:15 PM

Released in 1982, E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial not only raked in gobs of cash, but it gave Americans little aliens that we could love. Now the touchstone of family feel good cinema is slated for re-release in March, 2002.

Recently, Creators.com reported that Dee Wallace-Stone, who played Mary, the kids mom, has been called in to change a line in the upcoming re-release.

Stone stated, "There was some reference to one of the Halloween characters in the film looking like a terrorist, so we're going in to reloop that line".

Ms. Stone has already been booked for several major publicity events (eg. "Oprah") to promote the re-release. Besides redubbing movie text, Ms. Stone also enjoys a career as a  professional motivational/keynote speaker.

Thanks to Moviehole and Dark Horizons for the re-release low down.

I'll be looking for you in the chow line at the re-education camp. Seeya!

Pardon me for not being logged on when I told you I'd see you in the re-education camp.

So Tiny, you're NOT the one behind all of that other Bin Laden BS in the other threads?  Just curious.  Did Canada finally kick you out of their country too?

Those threads had someone else's "From" name, they just added my moniker to the bottom. It really wasn't that tought to figure out. I'm usually the scape goat around these parts though. What do you think of my Top Ten?

Red:

I agree with 8/10th's of your list, but Billy Cruppup? That guy is an awesome actor!
Besides "Almost Famous", and "Hi Lo Country", he's a really well established stage actor. He won some big Broadway award a couple years back. I think your way off the mark there. Here's mine (Feel free to critisize)
1. James Van Der Beek
2. Ben Affleck
3. Marky Mark
4. Hugh Grant
5. Keifer Sutherland
6. Heath Ledger
7. Paul Walker
8. Rachel Leigh Cook
9. Sharon Stone
10. Will Smith

Perhaps you should log on then and save a modicum of respect for your patriotic a*s.

I go out of my way not to watch anymore of the actors already on yours and UJ's list. Therefore I should'nt comment on their infallible abilities to f*ck up commercial cinema, over-rated or otherwise.

By the way what do you think of the movie studios new policy of revisionary cinematic history?  I'm betting the "Pearl Harbor" DVD will be a real treat.

I think all this re-doing will cease in about 12 months. We are living in an awkward time, and as a result the marketing folks have a serious case of the jitters, but it will pass. As far as my patriotism is concerned, I don't care what any of you think of me, I'm the fuking man.

Tiny, I hope your right about the re-doing thing.

By the way, God has called to inform me that you are not licensed to use the line, "I'm the fuking man!" or any variation there of.

He says that line has been soley reserved for me.

No one cares about ET anyway.. it seemed an annoying childs film in '82, and still seems that way today.  And I am proud to say to this day that I have still yet to see that film.

Better take the World Trade Center out of King Kong (1977) too, oh and get rid of Delta Force altogether (OK, so that's not a bad Idea).
Are we going to go and reloop every line that may be misconstrued?  The movie was made almost 20 years before these jagoffs made their call-ahead seating arrangements for the Hitler express to hell, and yet we find it too unbearable now?
I hate to say it...but those cowards have had some small successes with their attack.  We (not we as in you and me, we as in the dumbasses who fear anything that may be construed as insensitive) have changed our lives, and thus we give them the success, that the bravery of Firefighters and Police Officers and even some of our so-called "leaders" had stolen from the ignorant coward pukes who did this.

Of course that is just my opinion, I couldn't be wrong.

Oh come on, there is no reason to change the line.  The movie was made almost twenty years ago so are we going to change every line that mentions terrorisim in every movie that gets re-released?, or are we going to move on and try to forget this terrible act and remember the heroic acts of the men and women who went in to save others?.

 RE: E.T. :   > reply

changing the dialogue is like censorship to a degree...has everyone forgotten that these movies are fictional? leave the movies the way they were made...what's next? are they going to edit the poppy scene out of the wizard of oz because it connotates opium use, particularly after the opium production was discovered in afghanistan? give me a break. bad things happen...it doesn't mean it has to effect everything right down to your toilet paper...

Shemp,
you are absolutely right.  People today are so paranoid about everything.  ET was made years ago.  It has never offended anyone up until now, so whay chaneg it?  By the way, if you havent seen ET, I suggest you should.  That is if you like movies.  Think of it as a classic.  It is poorly done in today's standards, but well done for back then.
