PETA's Spay/Neuter PSA Too Dirty for MTV?
By Jack on March 30, 2001 5:27 PM
Washington Post reports that MTV has refused to show a public service announcement urging people to get their cats fixed that shows animatronic felines doing the wild thing because, MTV says, it does not allow the depiction of "fornication" on its networks.
In the ad, which was produced by the agency Saatchi & Saatchi, when kitty's human heads out for the night, she invites over a few friends to party. While they get wild and crazy, PETA flashes messages: "Over 2.4 million unwanted kittens are born every year." "Most will be put to death." "It's a problem you can fix: spay or neuter your cat."
When PETA submitted the ad to MTV, PETA spokeswoman Lisa Lange says, they were sent back a note that said the spot was funny but "unacceptable for MTV Networks -- no fornication allowed."
So PETA has sent a letter to MTV CEO Mark Rosenthal asking the network to reconsider. "No one, to our knowledge, has ever brought suit against the Discovery Channel when its nature shows train a camera on real life big cats 'doing it.' "
Funny mentioning Discovery Channel: They also rejected PETA's ad, which was rated No. 1 on the popular Web site AdCritic.com for more than a month.
The PETA ad has run on NBC's "Tonight Show." It aired when Jay Leno interviewed Pamela Anderson, who had put the ad on the front page of her Web site. But then, there's precedent at NBC; the network last year showed a Pekingese trying to mount Triumph the Insult Dog sock puppet during Triumph's coverage of the Westminster Dog Show.

MTV is weak, watered down, corporate garbage!
The time is ripe for someone to start a cutting edge, music channel that will bury that bloated, piece of self important sh*t known as MTV.

Much Music is the closest thing to it besides Public Access shows. Try being more involved in your local music scene - it'll keep you busy enough that you won't even bother to watch MTV anymore...

So, um, the commercial with a message is too much for MTV, but they can re-run the exploitation also known as SPRING BREAK over and over and over and over again? Give me a break!! How many times did I hear about sex and fornication on THOSE shows? MTV is cowardly - first the new Madonna video, now this. If it's not Britney Spears or Limp Bizkit related, it can't be on MTV apparently.

So it's OK for MTV to show specials dealing with breast implants (and they actually show bare breasts!), but fake cats humping is too much? Hell, they air "Undressed", which is nothing more than softcore homosexual porn for teenagers. Not to mention "Scared Straight" which allows convicts to say f-ck as many times as they can in a half-hour. Remember back in the old days when you could watch music videos on MUSIC Television??

MTV sold out! They have no problem showing sex in any and every other way, but 2 cats doing the wild thing is too much for them. They are so full of s@*t!

Screw MTV the commercial is funny as hell. I guess they thought it would be too much for their demographics to handle.
