Carlos and Elena are in love with each other. The problem: Carlos is from Latin America and Elena is from Russia, and their visas are about to expire soon. Much as they want to stay in the United States and get married there, their green cards are yet to come out. They came up with a rather strange, but clever idea: they are close friends with another couple: Mike and Betty, who are both residents in the States and are also planning to get married soon. They decided to switch couple and get married, and to get divorced later on whey Carlos and Elena get their green cards.
Later on romantic complications set in as each couple have to pretend living in harmony as immigration agents keep a close guard on them.
