In 1980 a man named Paul Lynch directed a slasher film called Prom Night starring a post-Halloween Jamie Lee Curtis and Leslie Nielsen. The film which is hardly worth mentioning is about a killer stalking four teens at their high school prom. Now, jump 27 years forward to 2007 when some genius at Sony Screen Gems decides what the world needs is another shitty horror film remake.
When I first heard about this Prom Night "remake", I pondered for a brief moment on how terrible the movie could be. Now that I've seen the trailer, I'm confident it is dramatically worse. The trailer opens with a delightfully pop cover of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time," then we learn that apparently "3 years ago, this guy got obsessed with a young female student and he went psycho.. and he’s been in maximum security prison up until 3 days ago". Enter screaming women and horrible cliches.
"Enjoy", the Prom Night trailer:
Prom Night stars no one you know and is set to ruin your April 11th weekend. Don't say I didn't warn you.
