Rope of Silicon has a teaser trailer for yet another low-rent video game adaptation. "DOA: Dead or Alive" wants so badly to be "Kill Bill," but it looks more like a late-night USA original movie. It does, however, contain scantily clad women kicking ass, often wearing wet clothing. No thanks are necessary."DOA: Dead or Alive" is directed by "Tranpsorter 2's" Corey Yuen and is due out August 2006.

Why are the girls fighting together, they're supposed to be fighting each other,not with each other. Not to mention that they use the same weopons and fighting styles even though they were to have come from different parts of the world and had different types of martial arts and other fighting styles. Dont you think that it would be a lot better and hotter to have nearly naked chicks fight each other. Whats up with the whole "Charlies Angels" girl power thing.

well its good that they wanted to make a movie done in the style of the last 30 seconds of the mortal kombat movie. a bunch of cheering, roaringly vacuous fighters on the steps of a temple for no reason other than lack of inspiration. corey yuen... say it aint so. you're better than that.

You have to realize that alot of trailers and teasers for action films aren't really that much better then this one.
But that said you really can't tell much from the trailer it's just some action packed clips here and there the producers thought people would like to see.

And here I was hoping that the film would be orientated around, no wait, at least HINT a little at the somewhat dark storyline depicted in the DOA: Ultimate intro (the one to the tune of 'Dream On' by Aerosmith). Guess that went up sh*t creek!

Dead or Alive is not about 5 girls looking hot and fighting random people. First off the dead or alive girls have different fighting styles and come from different parts of the world. This movie has them all fighting with each other with the exact same fighting styles and they all look completely fake. And where are the men of Dead or Alive in all this. Hayate, Hayabusa, Bass...where are they? This film will either completely tank or people will go see it just because of the girls. Come on Corey you could of directed the movie 1000 times better than this.

kasumi, ayane, leifang, all asian. but in the movie, there is only one asian girl? and, none of the girls fight side by side, they are all fighting against each other. this movie is to the dead or alive game series like Final Fantasy: The spirits within, is to the final fantasy game series. i think that this movie will be very dissapointing...too bad.

Im going to have to agree with what was said earlier, why are they all fighting as one, also why have they only got girls, i think that i saw Bayman but im not sure becuase he had blonde hair so it proberly wasn't.
I think its only got the girls in it becuase the people who created the film thought it would make the film 'hotter'. the should be the tension between the characters. What a crock of sh*t this film looks like.
Oh yeah, i think i saw helena in the film but if it was why the hell is she american i thought she was french, there wasn't even a hint of french in her accent.

First of all it seem to have nothing to do with the game. Second the list of characters can be seen on IMDB.com and not all of them are in it. Lei Fang and Brad Wong for example are nowhere to be seen. Third is the Helena character. I like Sarah Carter and she does look similar to Helena but she could have made a French accent for the movie. But I do think ,in all fairness, all we have seen is a teaser and a preliminary list of characters. I think we could get a better understanding of whats going on if we wait to see what happens closer to the movie time release. And also it is a movie based on a game, they usally are not that great.

If you're not sure, look a the trailer good) so maybe they dont appers in the cast, but they are in the movie.. i hope..

I forgot to say: When i heard about the DOA movie, I thought it would be animation, just like the game! I found the DOA:Ultimate's intro really beautiful. I hope they're gonna realize it and make us a real good movie in the Itagaki's style. Ya know, the one we all fell in love with?

alright i first need to say is this does look pretty bad. wish they would have stuck to the story but the creator of the games said that they shouldnt so this is wat they give ya. second, i saw genfu in the preview and leon so i bet more of the characters r in there. as for the casting yea a non asian playin ayane kinda ruins the effect but just get over it. now for ayane and kasumi being enemies i saw a scene in the forest where they kinda fight so some stupid thing must happen where all the girls need to join together to fight these ninja dudes.
as for my own opinion, 5 hot chicks doing martial arts works for me. but i would def like to c a CG film made of the story of the whole thing. and at the end Hayate rules the world bc he is the best character. so everyone just enjoy the pretty ladies in the movie and wait for DOA4.

I am a big fan of the games, i played them constantly, and still do often, but i was never big on th story line. besides, deon aoki is one of the hottet girls EVER, especialy in this movie.

First off there are going to be more of the male characters such as Bayman,Leon,Ryu,Hayate,and even Gen Fu (though he is not on the cast list but a glimpse of him fighting was seen in the trailer). And the chances are that they're probably gonna have the other female characters people are missing just be patient and wait till they actually finish filming the movie and doing whatever other things they need to do. And if your one of those so called "true DOA" fans that are whining and b***hing about the movie then do like the subject says STFU! and dont see the damn thing,god you guys act like this movie is the end of the world,grow up.

Yea and for all of you who do bring up that crap about why the girls are fighting with each other instead of against each other well use your common sense and think about other action movies,whenever enemies team up together and fight as allies ever happens its because they share a common enemy and by teaming up and destroying this common enemy all are benefited,you know it goes back to that old saying "The enemy of my enemy is my friend". And then of course maybe just maybe they might all turn against each other and try to kill each other when that one common enemy falls.

i have seen the trailer and if that is what is in the movie it is going to dissapoint true DOA fans like myself.
i totally agree with many comments such as the nationality issue and the fact of each girl helping one another in a ridiculous situation its a shame. and by not featuring most of the games characters in a trailer lacks the judgement that all the film features is a bunch of girls kicking ass (snore been there done that) they are no true elements to say it is an adaptation of the game besides the characters names.
As a fan i won't bother watching this movie i have seen enough to know the outcome.

At first I was the one supporting this film and you know what, after seeing this trailer, I still am. Who cares? The game didn't have a story as such apart from 5 minutes at the beginning where fans can make as many presumptions as they wish. Ayan hates Kasumi...does she? Who knows, she was just told "kill her" doesn't mean she hates her. They've murdered the character of Helena...who cares, she didn't have muhc of a character except to put and whine mildly. I am a true fan, I am unbeaten in DOA by any of my mates...but again, who cares? It's a film, just go a long, enjoy, the action looks enough to keep you going. There was no story to DOA...there was an underlying background to each character which involved the odd cutscene which would end in someone kicking someone's ass. To call each character an enemy is silly, Ayane didn't kill Helena's mother, Ayane was fucking with her, and "ONLY ONE ASIAN CHICK?!?!" Natassia Malthe is Icelandic with a Japanese mother and Devon Aoki is Japanese-American, the other three are charcters are supposed to be French/English/Texan...so what, who cares, we all expected far too much with it, we expected a Peter Jackson-esque Lord of the Rings opening, but meh...who cares? Just sit down, shut up and deal. Go make a fan-fic if you're so upset.

I ha ve a few things to say to your ranting.
first of all being unbeatable among your mates does not make you a big big fan.
further more doa has the best storyline of any fighting game, maybe if you look back you will see that. and it does not matter if they are or are not of asian heritage, they have to look asian, they do not look asian ENOUGH, they do not correctly represent the characters.
And as for your comment about Helena, shes is big main character not an extra.
Support the movie if you must.
but understand where the fans are coming from and that they wish to voice their opinion.

i agree totally with that the first guy said about the movie, DOA had no real story line other than that of the Kasumi,Ayane,Hayate,Raidou thing and the DAOTech thing or whatever the hell its called. I can see where people come from though about the characters looks but oh well too bad you get what you get and there aint a damn thing anyone of us can do about it (short from rioting infront of the film makers studios but i doubt anyone one of the so called "hardcore DOA fans" who are spamming this movie have the balls to do it. As far as i see everyone here has two choices which are:
1)you can go and see the movie when it comes out and like it.
or 2) you can just stfu and stop bitching about a halfmade movie on the internet where no one gives a shit and then not watch the movie when the movie comes out.
There plain and simple,two choices so pick one.

Why is Devon Aoki playing Kasumi and not Hitomi?
Devon Aoki and Hitomi are both half Japanese and half German.
I will undoubtedly see it as I am a fan of the game and to see Jaime Pressley...she's funny.

Devon Aoki is japanese/german and should be playing Hitomi! The girl playing Ayane is part malaysian, but I don't think you could really tell by looking at her.
I admit the casting is a little bad, but it's a made-for-dumb-americans movie and they had to cast Americans that people are familiar with.
I think Jaime Pressley was an excellent choice for Tina.
Lei Fang and Hitomi should be in the movie though, where the hell are they?

I just finally saw this trailer and I only have one thing to say. "CRAP"! That movie looks like utter crap. What a flop it's going to be. I've read all the previous comments and I agree with a lot of them. This movie just isn't true to the DOA way of things.

Has anyone else noticed that Games to Movies just don't do too well. I mean it's new concepts and such but, why do they butcher it. I know that making it appealing is all that matters yet, why don't directors put more heart into what they're directing now a days. I mean they should really look more into it and create something that all would enjoy: fans & non-fans alike. Too bad we live in a society like this, eh?!

and i keep reading comments about people shouldn't judge the trailer about the 5 girls fighting side by side... man f**k that sh**!! listen to the way they talk to each other. they didn't just happen to link up at the end to fight all those random ass dynasty warriors, it was intentional. after they fight they will probably go shopping or to a pep rally or somethin. matter of fact they all probably live in a frat house or somethin partyin and playin volleyball all day, when some random bad guy hits on one of them and gets turned down and sends his henchmen on the girls. they are plenty of movies to watch out there wit sexy girls fightin together for the greater good. man they need to drop the sailor moon bull and make a true dark and gritty martial arts madness doa movie.

I'm not passing judgement on this yet..at least until I see it for myself. Casting could have been better, true, but I do like the choices in some places. I love DoA, and as a fan, I will give it a chance. Never judge a book by its cover, don't judge a movie by its trailer. Maybe not five star material, and I do hope for a cg "Advent Children" esque movie eventually, but I'll still see this one.

Okay, after reading all the previous posts I've noticed a few things.
First of all people seem to agree that the movie looks terrible, this is probably because they are intelligent and have eyeballs. Also the characters have been cast poorly and the costumes are terrible ("Hi I'm some generic white girl with a purple wig!"). But mostly this is just another Hollywood "ADAPTATION" that alienates the major fan base in an attempt to make the movie more appealing to the general public without realizing NO ONE ELSE CARES.
If Hollywood types took their heads out of their asses once in a while they'd realize that if a something is very popular then maybe they shouldn't mess with the source material. Peter Jackson knows this and so far his movies have been nothing short of awesome.
If you truly like DOA and the subtle backstories that weave in and out of each of the characters' plots then don't go so see this movie. However, if Charlie's Angels 2, Mortal Kombat 2 or Street Fighter are in your top ten list of favorite movies then you're in for a treat!

I can't beleive there are people who actually think that this movie would even come close to being good, you don't need the trailer to know that; seeing the trailer should only be confirming the knowledge of 'suck' emmitting from the likes of this movie.
Earth really needs divine interevention.
I won't be surprised if Aliens from outer space have forgone giving earth a visit due to the stupidity they have observed from it.
How can a normal thinking human being say

All arguemtns pro and against this movie have been said.
Just one more thing (I read all posts just now): do you even know how much money a CG movie costs? It surpasses the (small) budget they used for this DOA ... *doesnt want to call it DOA movie* - for this movie by far. If I remember correctly they need much processing power - even SquareSoft (SquareEnix) had a problem with its FF:AC - because of the licenses from the Studios in which they produced the CG movie - thats why it got delayed for about 2 years.
I will give this movie a try even though the cast is really bad. Though... if only they could have used another actor for Ayane...
anyway: a CG movie is far more expensive. It's not just about: I reuse the models I have and the textures I have and viola: I have "just" to make em move and create the scenary... its REALLY complex. Be assured - I know what I am talking about.

What the hell is this to me in the begining I thought it was ok and all I see is Helena, Christie, Ayane, Kasumi, and Tina. Thats weird there better be another trailer and this trailer is nothing compared to the game. Where is Lei Fang, Hitomi, Zack, and the others. Helena can at least use a french ac-cent and why the hell are the girls teaming together. I thought I saw Ayane and Kasumi fighting eachother but thats it. This is about the worst game to film adaptation I have ever seen. It would have been a good movie if they had stuck with the story line from the intro of DOA Ultimate and focused on Kasumi, Ayane, Hayate and Hayabusa.

What is with the looks first.First of Helena has the hair it's just that she needs that ac-cent, Christie is an assasian not fucking talker with Helena, Kasumi doesn't even look like the one in the game she just looks like an american girl with too much makeup. Tina looks ok but she is a fucking wrestler not a sarcasimic girl who talk's about nails, and Ayane is wearing a fucking wig, in the trailer they could at least show some men. There should at least have an asian in this movie. Not an non-Chinese-American with a Chinese ac-cent. Where does the director find this people. At least one of the characters can not look like that woman in Kill Bill and say something about boys and at least they can do some of there hobbies like opera riding a bike and etc. fuck this movie is gonna suck bad. of course i know there will be a sequel.

Well - I think that this movie is okay for most of the people watching it (and not having played the game).
What I personally dislike is that the DOA game (okay - please dont flame about this) ownz ME! in comparison to Tekken. However - the Tekken movie might turn out much better than this one: I heard rumours about them hiring Jackie Chen for Law and Jet Li for Lee... it can only become bette there... while this movie is certainly going to suck in terms of game-movie relationship. As a standalone movie it will be average. Just that they shouldn't promote is as "the movie to the DOA games"... that is my only worry.

This movie looks horrific. Wrong people cast for the worng women, lack of guy characters, which in the gaem out number the women characters quite a bit, the girls fighting together WTF! its a fighting game not a co-op game. The girls should fight each other not all be holding swords fighting together, one girl is a wrestler, how many wrestlers carry samurai swords? None that i've seen. This movie will be as good as Street fighter or mortal combat and they aren't good at all. Games to movies should be left to Lara and her desert eagles, nothing else.

Well I do agree with you all the absence of a lot of characters such as lei fang and jann lee. I don't understand why they wouldn't put hitome in their because christie was in doa3, 4 and doax but hitome was in doa3, 4, doax AND ultimate. As much as I love christie and her arrogant attitude, I love hitome more cause she is so cute. About the actors I personal think they picked kasumi and only kasumi correctly, but thats because I'm a devon aoki fanatic ( so drown me) but they should of found some one else to christie and have what ever her name was play tina. ( sorry jamie presley.) And sara carter is okay as long as she doesn't screw up the role of helena. What am I saying this movie is worse than the actor they picked to play ayane ( that poison lady from electra) and just letting you know shes actually mayalsian whcih is actually a type of asian... weird

This is obviously just a teaser trailer. It even says so. Of course they aren't going to show everything. But I do agree that it would be better if the actors reflected the actual characters ethnicity. And whats the deal with ayane and the freakishly bright purple hair? What the hell was up with Hitomi? Hopefully this movie will be cancelled, even though I was really looking forward to it. It would only embarass me as a Dead or Alive fan.

I have to say that trailer was very very very very very bad I am a very big fan of Dead or Alive and now I wish that they would have just gave up one the movie or made it in CG but I am kind of glad they tried :) BUT THAY DID IT SO GAY!!!!

Yes finally a DOA movie.. that trailer was kinda bad. Hopefully you fix this movie. I like the actors you have for the girls. I havent really seen any of the other male characters. DOA never really had much of a plot to begin with. I don't know how anyone could possibly make a movie based on it.
It also doesn't make sense that they didn't have more Asian girls in this movie. Every guy loves Asian girls these days, and this movie could've been the perfect opportunity for Hollywood to capitalize on yellow fever.

Well do any of you guys know the DoA story?
Donovan is the owner of DoATech and helena is his daughter etc etc. The ninja's (hayate, kasumi, ayane) are suppose to try and stop him (hayabusa isnt in there clan but he assist them anyway). Bayman is sent to kill donovan and leon is just out to prove he is the strongest man alive.
Tina is just in DoA to gain fame and Bass wants to stop her.Christie is the one who actually killed helena's mother but was actually sent to kill helena and anyone who gets in her way. Zack is just a pimp.he wants riches and girls so he just jumped into DoA.
Oh i forgot about the ayame and kasumi thing. yeah they do hate each other but thats because kasumi's mom gave ayame up but kept kasumi after some guy held her against her will (back on DoA1). Now that thats done lets compare it to the movie...ugh its all wrong haha but i wont dis it yet. lets wait and see if they fixed it up or willing to face a huge money loss

o.k the movie doesn't make sense because it's not related to any of the games I played. On the other hand I doubt anyone would want to see another action/drama movie were the heroe/s saves the day and everyone lives happily ever after. That got overrated so by all means if you make a movie with sexy girls who kick a lot of ass go for it. For all you whining bastards just DONT SEE THE F$#@ING MOVIE F$#@.
