Ever since McG has been trying to get Superman up in the air, Jim "JC" Caviezel (The Passion) has been rumored to be a front runner for the coveted role, but was he ever in the running?
Interviewed by Robert Sanchez of iesb.net"There has been no direct talks with Bryan Singer, all talks have been through mediators," Caviezel told the IESB. As in whether or not he would like to take on the challenge of Superman, "it appeals to me a great deal, I haven't seen the script but I do like to play iconic characters, I see the role of Superman as a big responsibility and see it almost as a calling," said Caviezel.
When asked who has been the best Superman thus far, "Chris Reeve is the Ultimate Superman, the best version has been Reeve, the original movies are a big inspiration because it mixes comedy and drama, also Ned Beatty and Gene Hackman are good villains because of the same reason," Caviezel said. As to whether or not revisit the franchise, "it's like comparing the 1991 Chicago Bulls to the 2001 Los Angeles Lakers or Jim Brown to Walter Peyton, it's not like it has not been done before and it can be done again and done well." And why we should revisit the franchise? Jim simply stated, "we need to revisit the character because of what Superman symbolizes for America."
What does Superman symbolize? Truth, Justice and the American Way.
I couldn't agree more.
