Topic: News SPIDER-MAN 3 Villain Gossip
By Charley on July 28, 2004 5:05 PM

Rumors to follow.  Seriously, don't get your hopes up, even though I have.  Apparently, some UK show did an interview with Sam Raimi and a possibility that seemed impossible about who will be the villain in "Spider-Man 3" came up, albeit in a cryptic, weird fashion.  Who is the villain who might "lock webs" with Spidey in the third installment of the series according to the cautious Ain't it Cool News article?

Why, Venom, of course. But the article was indeed skeptical, citing what is not necessarily a reliable source who seemed to citing another unreliable source.  Still, there it is again.  Raimi has denied wanting to make Venom a part of the third movie, which fits with the direction that the second movie was taking us.  But what if. . .?  Could Raimi be headfaking?

Here is an excerpt from the tipster:

The interviewer (sorry i forget the name...he's very B-list over here) declared his undying love for Spidey and all things related and asked if Raimi would possibly give him some hints on who the adversaries are to be next time around. Raimi responded with a comment that, although far from finalised, he had just finished the first treatment and would be able to tell him roughly what happens and who would be likely to lock webs with Peter; just so long as he didn't tell anyone else.

Then (in an obviously unscripted move...due to the incredulous look on the interviewer's face) proceeded to spend several seconds whispering into his ear...genuine whispering (not the old "rhubarb, rhubarb" theatrical routine). After which the interviewer looked directly at camera and said, and i quote;

"Well, how happy am I. There it is; in Black and White"

The delivery of this line was unmistakable, he might as well have winked at the audience. Raimi kinda twitched when he said it too, looking skywards slightly...in a kinda exasperated fashion.

Sounds weak to me.  Why would Raimi whisper what would amount to the biggest secret of the next movie into the ear of some fool?  Alas, I am still hopeful.  If not in the third movie, Venom needs to show up somewhere for me to be completely satisfied with this series.

Sounds like they were joking around to me.

Understand this right now and remember when 2007 actually comes around that you bluntly heard this from me... there is no way on God's green earth or in hell that either "Venom" or "Carnage" for that matter will make an appearance in either the 3rd movie or the 4th... its not going to happen.  The 3rd villian WILL be "The Lizard" a.k.a Dr. Connors, with Harry Osbourne taking up the role of the Green Goblin more than likely (that is if Sam Raimi is sticking to the comic he will).  But "The Lizard" is going to be the next villian in Spider-Man 3... and that you can BANK ON.  As I said, when 2007 comes around just remember that I told you.

Anyone with half a brain knows that, all this Venom talk is just over-excited fanboys.

 RE: Spidey3 villian   > reply
Posted by Deouija (No Email) on July 29, 2004 11:04 PM

Its not even over excited "fanboys", its more of over excited teenagers who really don't know jack squat square one about the Spider-Man story line.  All they know is the stupid cartoon series that was basically crap anyway.  I agree that both Venom and Carnage (Carnage more so than Venom by FAR) are awsome SPider-Man villians but these people DON'T REALISE all that would have to happen to actually get the two of them on screen as far as blending with the storyline.  True, the Spider-Man movies is BASED on the characters that appear in Marvel Comics and its because of this that Mr. Raimi does not have to exactly stick to the comic detail for detail but FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!   If he was to introduce Venom or Carnage in Spidey 3 or even 4 for that matter it would ruin the franchise all due to the fact that he would allow his decision to be ruled by people who really have no idea about the Spider-Man story line and only focus on what THEY think are the ultimate in "cool" villian characters (Venom & Carnage) or somehow Sony starts to think too much on their bottom line for profits and actually tries to appeal to these idiotic  morons who don't know jack squat about the story line and in an attempt to please them thinking that by so doing it will bring Spider-Man through the roof it in all actuality would be the begining of the franchise downfall.  What about villians like, The Vulture, Mysterio, The Scorpion, The Rhino (although he would'nt make for a great MAIN villian), Craven The Hunter, The Chameleon, The Shocker, The Sandman.. etc..etc..etc.  Venom & Carnage should be brought in around Spider-Man 6 or 7.  Puh-leeeeeeease don't be stupid and say that by then the franchise would be lame or boring (it would be if Venom & Carnage were brought in too sson) because look at howm many "Friday The 13th"(s) that have been made or "Nightmare On Elm Street"(s) and people still go to see those two characters (Jason & Freddy) and Spider-Man blows the two of those franchises out of the water as well as has a much larger fan base (I actually like Freddy myself).  If this franchise is done right it could go on for a very long time (although I personally forsee Tobey giving up the reigns soon unfortunately) and the bright side to that is it would allow enough time (years) to pass for the morons who are so Venom & Carnage crazed now to actually have time to get into the Spider-Man story line so that when those two characters finally hit the silver screen in a Spider-Man movie they would be more prepared.. more matured in the story and would feel REALLY excited to see Venom & Carnage at that time.  The worse mistake would be for Sony to try and release a Venom & Carnage movie on its own merit without Spider-Man at all, I doubt that this would ever happen but Hollywood has been known to do some stupid and ass backwards stuff in the attempt to appeal to the masses of morons... dare I say "Batman Forever" or "Batman & Robin"???  Well thats my highly developed intellectual opinion on this matter and for all of you Spider-Man hardcore wannabees who keep wishing for Venom or Carnage to make an appearance in Spidey 3 or 4, if what I said offended ANY OF YOU... I make NO apologies and hopefully you can chew on the FACTS that I stated so that when the time does come for those villians to hit the silver screen you can look back and say "You know something... that Deouija a-hole was right all along" and I will feel a sense of goodness as I like to think that somewhat aiding the stupid is a calling to answer to.

I heard it will be Black Cat (Eliza Dushku perhaps?) who wears black and white, and had lock webs with Spidey in the past...

After Spider-man 3 Rami is probably going to produce and let another director take the helm, perhaps he'll introduce Venom.

despite the fact that Sam Raimi makes this shit up as he goes, even he would find it impossible to introduce Venom, based solely on the fact that he would have to do the entire secret wars first, although secret wars would make a great fucking movie...

Venom would be the best movie yet. If I see Venom in this film
, I would want to watch it a million times {so would everyone else (I swear)}. The best way to make this film is Spidey and venom having a fight after Peter seperates from it, after a combination, and then, if your'e not lazy enough to make a fourth film, then venom should somehow return and then Carnage should also be introduced. Then somehow you should give carnage some kind of a very evil female voice to make it seem like Carnage is female. Then the best bit of the film would be if Venom and Carnage had sexual intercourse, a yucky alieny style, and make the baby half of what each parent is together. Much more powerful, faster, etc. This baby, when it grows up, can't be beaten by sound rays, so Peter will need help. The best someone or something to refer to, in the fourth film, should be someone like Madame Web. The only way to defeat the baby, when its grown, is by a symbol of love, in this case Mary-Jane. Madame Web should introduce herself to Peter and use some kind of mysterious talk saying how the monster should be destroyed, but in a way Peter should figure out himself. This film will be a blast. More than that, it will be the film of the century or even the millenium. I promise you this if you do this film, there will be over 10,000 pounds for cinema tickets sold in about 4 or 5 cinemas in the country. Do it. If you get payed, then you film makers will become multi-billionares. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may be right but who cares about story lines. I mean action films and stuff like that are just films for entertainment, unless they are educational. This is just for fun. There is too much thinking to be done if we refer to storylines. It is hard work, believe me.

(Same guy again) Got bored and actually read your post word for word and I change my mind.

It sounds like a REALLY REALLY REEEAAALLLY crappy fan fic. One where the audience would sit there, tilt their head to the side, and go "WWW-TTT-FFF!?!?!?" Sounds like a 12 year old wrote the script or a derranged Comic Book Guy from The Simpsons.

I have it on good authority that Lindsay Lohan is being considered to play Firestarter.  I'm not sure if she was ever in the comics, but she was on the animated series years ago.  Sounds cool to me.

ok it is way too earlyy to have the harry as the hod goblin, or the green goblin or whatever the fuckin goblin is, we just saw it in the first one and it would be boring and repetetive adn teh same old fights and shit like that. I hope venom is in the thrid one but i probly wont happends casue of the story line and stuuf but i wont mind if somebody else kool is in it like, i dunno shocker or the lizard is kinda kool i guess but please dont make it another goblin movie cause it'll be that same old shit.

First let me say that Venom would be awesome but wont ever be there. It will be Green Golblin 2. Harry never was the Hobgolbin so its not Hobgolblin, ZIts Green Golblin 2. This movie I see a second villian and that is Lizard. And just so all of you know that there wont be a 4 at all. It is 100% fact that 3 is the last and final movie. So when you say its to early to put Venom in, remember its the only chance left and its probably not gonna happen. Sad really but I would like it to end with The spaceship bringing it back. We will see.
