Last week
we reported that Joe Carnahan was no longer the director for "Mission: Impossible 3." The film has a new man behind the camera, according to
Ain't it Cool News. Brett Rattner ("Red Dragon," "Rush Hour") has signed to direct the sequel that may be worse than "Mission: Impossible 2," an accomplishment which seems almost impossible itself.
Not that "IM 2" was totally worthless as a movie, but it was not a "Mission: Impossible" movie in the sense that most people had hoped for. You know, with missions. Impossible ones.
Rattner was working on "Rush Hour 3," but decided "MI 3" was a better choice. Good move there. But "Rush Hour"? And "Red Dragon" was a movie where Hannibal Lecter said things like, "The killer you are looking for hates his parents and breathes air." Compelling. Granted, Rattner did not write the script to any of these films, but come on--"Rush Hour"?
Tom Cruise will be back along with Ving Rhames. Other cast includes Kenneth Branagh ("Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets") , Scarlett Johansson ("Lost in Translation"), and Carrie Anne Moss ("The Matrix"). The film is due out next year.
