Donnie Darko had two good bits and they were both one retorts
"Donnie Darko sounds like a superhereo name"
"How do you know I'm not"
AND
"Take that stupid bunny suit off."
"take that stupid human suit off"
Anyway the film was pretty pretentious. Entertaining but don't think about it afterward it does actually make NO sense.

well, personally, i think whoever said you can't get donnie darko is a fool. you merely did not understand it yourself.
i can truthfully say that i do understand the movie, though it took quite a while to piece it together.
do you really think it would gain such a following if it had no meaning? i have a little more faith in people to pick out meaningless media from that which is (as donnie darko) quite... meaningful!
thank you for enduring my ramble... heh...

That's why it's such a great film...it is up to the viewer to make their own interpretaion of it. You can make it make sense by your own theories, or you can just confuse the hell out of yourself by listening to other peoples theories! It's up to you, that's the beauty of it.

Delighted to hear its been re-released. I only watched it last night for the first time(although i didnt understand everything). I did think to myself it would be good to see this on the big screen.(and a second chance for me to put the pieces together!)

This argument is going to go around in circles just like the film.
It was meaningless because there virtually an endless supply of theories about the movie. I watched it and came up with onbe idea but it doesn't mean anything. It has a following beacause people like to think they understand pretentious ramblings a bit like the matrix but without the action but better acting. And Funnier.

Any one who says they think donnie darko is overated or stupid is just a moron who doesn't know anything about anything, the acting is fantastic and the script is very clever and funny.
the matrix is also a masterpeice.

And with that last sentence you're entire argument goes up in smoke, oh dear.

Anyone who bashes Darko or the Matrix (even the last two films) doesn't get either of them. Why do so many people have problems with films that are supposed to make them think? This was what bothered my brother about Blade Runner...in his opinion, Ridley Scott hid questions about the nature of humanity and mortality into what was otherwise a perfectly good Sci fi film about killer androids. Come on, people, if you don't want to watch a brainy film then go see Terminator.

the movie is not supposed to be an easy watch.
its that simple.
movies that have theories, understandings, etc, attached are meant to make you sit down and think about them, to say something about the topic they touch base on...
and the reason many people arent understanding it is because it goes in circles... lots and lots of circles.

Ok fine, if you want to feel like your an intellectual then by all means, sit around in coffee houses, drink Lattes and discuss the meanings of life as portrayed in The Matrix while s*n-word*ing at everyone who says they're just action flicks. Whatever floats your boat.

The 1st Matrix film was both a cool action film and also it made you think. The sequels however, while still having cool action were just really pretencious and stoopid.

Have read the book? the film is different and has more action so it probably works better as a movie but the book is very intelligent and worth reading its almost pro-war.

The first matrix was fine made you think, good action good acting very clear concise movie. the other two got ahead of themselves and focused too much on trying to make the audience think and not enough on a clear script and god action.
Donnie Daqrko was enjotable to watch and I would recomend it but ultimatly it doesn't really mean anything and you can call me a moran all day but its still true, if not then give us your theory and we can see me proved wrong.
Ridly Scott didn't put the questions about humanity in Blade Runner Phillip K Dick did. That is a good film.

Donnie darko is one of, if not the best, movie. It makes you think, it relates to the life of real teens. No it may not make sense to you snotty upperclass I'm better than you cause I'm normal and popluar people, but to those of us who can understand where it's coming from it makes much more sense, espescially after seeing it so many times. "It's a mad world, mad world"
