EVIL DISNEY Won't Give Michael Moore Release Date Updated!
By Wind(up)bird on May 5, 2004 12:40 PM
The evil, dark-suited, balding white men incharge of the Disney Co. are reportedly refusing to release quasi-documentarian, Michael Moore's new America-Loving, Bush-Hating film, Farenheit 911. The film was to be released this summer around the time of the Republican national convention. Miramax, owned by Disney, was going to release the film. Miramax has been known to go limp when various filmmakers have needed them to be erect (or have wanted final cut on their own projects). Bastards. * Inside, a link to an open letter from Moore himself. The film details financial connections between the Bush family and powerful Saudi Arabian families over the last thirty years, including the evacuation of Osama bin Laden's relatives from the United States two days after Sept. 11. Also included are American soldiers in Iraq describing their doubts about the justification for war.
Michael Moore has commented, "At some point the question has to be asked, 'Should this be happening in a free and open society where the monied interests essentially call the shots regarding the information that the public is allowed to see?' "
Feel like telling Disney the answer is no? Call them Disney and tell them.

Disney Has Blocked the Distribution of My New Film...
by Michael Moore
Friends,
I would have hoped by now that I would be able to put my work out to the public without having to experience the profound censorship obstacles I often seem to encounter.
Yesterday I was told that Disney, the studio that owns Miramax, has officially decided to prohibit our producer, Miramax, from distributing my new film, "Fahrenheit 9/11." The reason? According to today's (May 5) New York Times, it might "endanger" millions of dollars of tax breaks Disney receives from the state of Florida because the film will "anger" the Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush. The story is on page one of the Times and you can read it here (Disney Forbidding Distribution of Film That Criticizes Bush).
The whole story behind this (and other attempts) to kill our movie will be told in more detail as the days and weeks go on. For nearly a year, this struggle has been a lesson in just how difficult it is in this country to create a piece of art that might upset those in charge (well, OK, sorry -- it WILL upset them...big time. Did I mention it's a comedy?). All I can say is, thank God for Harvey Weinstein and Miramax who have stood by me during the entire production of this movie.
There is much more to tell, but right now I am in the lab working on the print to take to the Cannes Film Festival next week (we have been chosen as one of the 18 films in competition). I will tell you this: Some people may be afraid of this movie because of what it will show. But there's nothing they can do about it now because it's done, it's awesome, and if I have anything to say about it, you'll see it this summer -- because, after all, it is a free country.
Yours,
Michael Moore

Disney are just covering their asses, the same way that kid from New Zealand will have to when he goes to prison.

I like the way that that rapper guy hasn't gone to this thread cos its about something a bit too complicated for him.

I heard that Michael already has some foreign investors that have bought this film and are distributing overseas this coming summer.
Does anyone know where the distribution is happening (which countries)? And how those of us in the not-so-free U.S. of A might obtain a copy?
I for one am sick and tired of the tyranny that is the Bush administration and the politics regarding their "lap dogs" at Disney.

I hope they do not succeed at squelching this movie. It exposes some truths that the American people need to know. GWB is a crook, a liar, and a horrible President. Just goes to show how wrong we have gone to have someone like him in the office. Kerry for President!

It's obvious to me that the majority of Moore supporters have blinded themselves to the facts, even when exposed (bowlingfortruth.com) and detailed in non-confrontational ways. Idiots!
