Topic: News THE TERMINAL Teaser Trailer
By Wind(up)bird on April 16, 2004 8:44 AM

A first look at Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks' summer dramedy, The Terminal, hit the web last night.  Packed with Spielberg essentials, a great cast and interesting story, the Terminal should be decent.  Check it.

I found the trailer touching and effective. What sold me however was the FINAL scene where Tom is shaving in the bathroom with another man next to him. His subtle facial expression is GOLD! That scene alone makes me want to watch this film!

The legend of Merhan Karimi Nasseri.   > reply

Here's an uninteresting chunkette of factoid: This film was probably inspired by the story of Merhan Karimi Nasseri an (ex-)Iranian citizen who was expelled from Iran for his political views in 1977. In August 26, 1988 after a traveling from country to country, he landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport near Paris where he was denied re-entry into England because his passport and United Nations refugee certificate had been stolen. French authorities would not let him leave the airport, so he stayed there. He has since been granted permission to either enter France or return to his own country. He instead chooses to continue to live in the terminal and tell his story to those who will listen.

This is also not the first film based on Merhan Nasseri. Tombés du ciel a French 'dramedy' directed by Philippe Lioret was made in 1993.

According to the NYT, DreamWorks bought the rights to Mr. Nasseri's story (See: "Waiting for Spielberg," Sept. 21, 2003)
