Why? Is the original Internal Affairs bad? Is Scorsese too mainstream? Is Pitt too hot? Or is my aforementioned comment just too positive for your psuedo patina?

infernal affairs is one of the best hong kong movies I've seen. it's a shame westerners don't appreciate foreign movies so I guess a hollywood remake will have to do. hope it stays true o the original.

Yea, but it was filmed in another country and because of the fact that 63% of Americans are illiterate and therefore can't read subtitles they believe it's a good idea to remake it.

i hope they do justice to the infernal affairs remake. too bad the original version isn't released here. the only way most people get it is through bootlegs and illegal downloads.

Why oh why?? Did they seriously think that the re-make of the Ring was good?? Are they really that deluded...?
If this does go ahead, I really hope they do it well, because if not, then they will have ruined one of the best HK flicks in a long while...

U can't remake an original....the Chinese Original...will always be the best. Unless u bring together Brad pitt(leonardo playing the young version of him), Tom Cruise(jeremy Jackson/ or sumnoe that'll resemble cruise)...Al Pacino, Rob Dinero....Sorry..thats my opinion...if they are going to re-make this movie, they better bring out the big guns....Use All the money given to them..and bring this movie to life..as in the triology did for the Asian Media market...Infernal affairs 1,2,3...bring it together, And dont F*** up.~!

Considering that Miramx owns the American distribution rights to "Infernal Affairs", I'm wondering if Scorsese's doing this to get under their skin (apparently, he's going to make this with another production company).
As far as the idea of remaking it....if it were anybody other than Scorsese, I'd be cringing in fear. However, considering his track record (let's see, "Taxi Driver", "Raging Bull", "After Hours", "Last Temptation Of Christ", "King Of Comedy", "Goodfellas", "Age Of Innocence"....well, you can always go to IMDB to look it up), I'm more curious than anything else.

Infernal Affairs has just been given a cinema release in England and I have just been to see at a cinema in central London. Thought it very good. Look forward to the release of 2&3. Heard about a possible remake with Mr Pitt. Don't think he has the necessary physical menace in spite of Fight club the actor who plays Lau has a face like a Ninja throwing star and the under cover cop spends the film either literally or metorphorically on the shrinks couch looking like hes on rehab the film reeks threat when their on the screen , remember they are both in a " continuous hell" to quote the film, and remember the problem Pitt had playing Mr Black a.k.a Death himself. You need someone like Del Toro for the cop and maybe the lead guy out of Things to do in Dever when your Dead, not Walken though he would be great for the fat gang boss( sorry i forget his name) they got the looks but you would still want them on your side in a fight
The story is a great dramatic contstuct just needs careful repect, and Scorcese not to be afraid of getting dirty.

Hong Kong version was pretty gritty. Hope the Americans don't piss off the Chinese by doing a cheesy-fied version with million dollar explosions and crappy fist fights. if the Americans liked the original so much then why remake it? isn't that just going to ruin and tarnish the original? the original Nikita was AMAZING and intense- and once i watched the re-make, and hated it, watching the original only reminded me of the shitty Jane Fonda version! Americans are PRO's at f***ing things up.

Does everything good in the world need US production to "grant" a remaking? If US wanna get something good, she should produce her own ones, not copy others'. No matter how good the US version will be, it is still the second one, the copied one.

All good Chinese language movie can be shown to the West without any edit or remake. If language is the problem, dub it. Westerners can't imagine how an English-speaking movie looks like when all the actors/actresses are not white or black yet speaking English fluetly. In Singapore, almost all Chinese can speak English. A lot of Singapore-made TV drama series and some movies are totally in English, but all the artistes are Singapore natives, not a single white or black. So please keep Infernal Affairs, Shaolin Soccer, Hero, etc, intact. No cut. No remake. Dub it in English if really necessary, since it is so tough for the Americans to read English.

that's racism man!!

Posted by seriously (No Email) on April 12, 2004 7:34 PM
The racism actually starts from the West. They think that Chinese and Japanese look weird in speaking English, so they have to remake what is already good e.g. 'The Ring'. See how they make fun of Jackie Chan in his first US movie "Rush Hour"? They think he can't speak good English. In fact, I think the Americans are even worse in learning new language. And worse, they are not patient to read English subtitle. What else can I say about them?

Yes of course you're right, the West is racist and the rest of the world isn't.

remaking may be a good thing.
Since most of the Westerners will not think of getting an Asian film.
So evern though there're good Asian film, hardly anyone will get it released in the West cuz it's not making big $$.
But if, in the case, Infernal Affairs is remade in a good quality, people who like it may also check the HK version out.
That will help promoting the original as well.
