Topic: News DeNiro Wants TAXI DRIVER 2?!
By Wind(up)bird on January 20, 2005 7:43 PM

Darkhorizons.com is reporting that Robert DeNiro may or may not have approached his pal Marty Scorsese about a sequel to the cult classic, Taxi Driver.

Could Bobby DeNiro be bored of making bad shitty films (will making a sequel to a great cult film erase the cheese)?

You know that theme from Taxi Driver? If you speed it up it sounds like the tune Daryl Hannah's character whistles in Kill Bill.

Please Mr De Niro do not put pressure on Scorsese to make a sequel. You CANNOT act anymore and he's not the director he once was.
Don't muddy this classics name by adding to it. ~skinny~

Wat r u talkin about, De Niro still rocks. Its just his choice of films.

I think it's a natural progression, Scorsese is my favourite director, he and De Niro ruled in the 70's. Scorsese had youthful flare in the 70's, and it showed in such classics as Mean Streets, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull (okay..1980).
He is more suited to making big epics now like Goodfella's (which is up there with TD and RB) and Gangs of NY (which wasn't bad).

Now...De Niro was in my opinion the best actor of the 70's reaching his zenith with Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. He could still act to this standard in Leone's Once Upon a Time in America, but he has gone downhill since then, resorting to pulling "typical" De Niro poses in poor movies such as Analyze That and Meet the Fockers.

De Niro has rarely shined since the early 80's. Notable exceptions being solid performances in Cape Fear, Casino, Bronx Tale and Goodfellas.

It's for these reasons that it is with great sadness that i read of plans for a Taxi Driver 2. ~skinny~

ede niro is the best actor of all time and still is. His acting get better with age which is hard to believe that he has been in films such as raging bull, taxi driver and the untouchables, whoever thinks that Sir Robert De Niro is anything but an amazing actor obviously lived in a jungle for there whole life and has never even heard of a TV

I dont think he's a 'sir' yet mate, and I dont think he'll ever be.

I think he thought that adding 'sir' to the front of someones' name was just something you did when you're in adulation of them.

I think I know that mate, I just wanted to bring up the fact that this guy sounds a real twat.

Tell me... do you seriosly think his performance in the barely watchable movie The Untouchables was anywhere near as good as in Raging Bull?
De Niro was the best actor, and is still my favourite, but you cannot tell me he can act to the standards he did in the 70's.

If scorsese has to make Taxi Driver again, he'd be better off letting somebody like Edward Norton lead. But in my view he just shouldn't touch Taxi Driver and leave it Untouchable. ~skinny~

Hey come to think of it... Bobby De Niro was the best actor in the world before and during Once Upon a Time in America, but he's had a steady run of bad films since then.

Part of the skill of being a talented actor is surely having the ability to pick the right movies to be in.

It kills me to say it because he's like a hero to me... but other than supporting roles, such as his good performance in Tarantino's Jackie Brown, he's done nothing to suggest he is as good as he used to be.

My favourite De Niro?
Johnny Boy Civello in Mean Streets. A legend at work, in a legendary film, made by a legendary director.

De Niro's best role was in the Godfather part 2.

He was excellent in Godfather P2!!

I liked him in Cape Fear because he was kinda playing a different type of character.

I liked that movie but I think he should have got to rape the guy's daughter.

Just because he is taking on lighter roles it dosnt mean he is no longer a great actor.  In a recent pole he was voted the second greatest actor of all time just behind al pacino.  I really think some people are stupid if they think he isnt as good as he used to be.  Its not as though he has made a film in which he's acting  poorly?? Half of you shouldnt even comment in this room because clearly you dont know what your talking about-DENIRO DID NOT DIE IN TAXI DRIVER!!
Next thing u'll be saying meet the parents/fockers are bad film? they probably are but is his acting bad?

 RE: Garyk   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on February 5, 2005 3:19 AM

The thing about those kind of poles is that people probably voted for De Niro because it's just widely accepted that he's the best around regardless of his recent films.

 RE: Garyk   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on February 5, 2005 3:43 PM

I agree with Garyck!

And Meet the Fockers was not a high calibre movie.

Did these people watch TaxiDriver all the way through or are they complete idiots?

Travis Lives!

Please Mr De Niro, prove me wrong and star in a great movie again!

~Skinny~

 RE: Garyk   > reply
Posted by A random shemp (No Email) on February 5, 2005 3:47 PM

I agreed about the reasons for people voting him second (and first on FilmFour UK).
I think Bobby's the greatest ever! Pacino is good though.

But it would be great if he pulled out a great new performance...especially in a Scorsese film.

Pacino is fucking magic. De Niro is great but will always be second to Al.

I know it's academic now cos they aint making another TaxiDriver.... Ray Liotta would make a good Bickle.
I still don't want them to make another though.
