Quote of the day:

OK, here's a thought about Samara vs. the horses. Aiden says Samara doesn't like it in the barn; "the horses keep her up". Later, Rachel remembers what Aiden said, although she mistakenly repeats it out loud as "the horses keep her awake". Aiden didn't say "awake", & wouldn't have, as he knows that Samara never sleeps. The horses certainly sense her malevolence. Given where Samara is eventually kept, does the collective, relative "goodness" of the horses keep her "up", in her prison, until she's strong enough to drive them mad & free herself? Remember the doctor says that they had "hard years", "mean winters", "small hauls", "no fish", all long before the horses began drowning themselves? These seem to be the embryonic efforts of Samara testing her power. No one is yet suffering from "hallucinations" or "madness". The "island's cold is everyone's cold". Everyone (her parents not the least, especially since they know her origin) sense that she's somehow responsible, so she's kept high in the barn with her only means of egress easily taken away. Is she somehow able to draw upon the energy (radiation?) from the TV she has as her constant companion to learn the horrific skill that would become her "salvation", i.e escape?

Does Samara know of her fate (i.e betrayed by her mother)? She seems to be aware of her imminent demise while standing facing the well as Anna is coming up behind her. Do the horses need to be eliminated (making them mad through horrific imagery & drowning themselves ties in nicely with Samara's eventual physical resting place, yet unlike her human victims, before the fact) so that she can descend from the loft and fulfill her destiny, by "dying" only to be "reborn" as the eternal (she was certainly aging as a physical being) unsleeping evil presence in the world?

I know it's been suggested before, but it seems to make the most sense to me as a religious metaphor.

Antichrist anyone?
