Topic: Finance SUPERMAN Returns With $52M WEEKEND, Hits $100M in 7 Days!
By Wind(up)bird on July 2, 2006 10:43 AM

The first reports have "Superman Returns" earning $52 million over its opening weekend (and $82m over the course of five days).  It's a solid opening and means well for the renewed franchise.  Some will say it underwhelmed and should have destroyed all previous records, but Spider-man 2's insane $43m a day average is a hard record to beat. "The Devil Wears Prada" opening strongly.  Click on for early numbers.

The Numbers
1. Superman Returns - $52m
2. Devil Wears Prada - $27m
3. Click - $19m
4. Cars - $14m
5. Nacho Libre - $6m

who cares if a movie does or does not make alot of money thats not the important issue. The most important issue is if it is the best movie it could possibly be. either if its a comedy, drama, action, or extc.

Watched the movie Saturday night.  I give it a 7 out of 10.  The story got a little far-fetched & a bit corny with how far they stretched the possibilities of Supermans persona.  The acting seemed tired.  The special effects were probably the best part of the movie.  Lois Lane didn't seem believable.  Lex Luthor was alright, but sometimes over the top acting.  Superman was almost perfect... though I'd sometimes wonder how young he seemed in comparison with the previous Superman movies.  Almost thinking it was Superboy the movie... or a Smallville the Movie part 1.  Overall, the movie was "OK".  Mediocre +

Lois was too young. Lex was ok. Superman could be a little older, but was ok. The story line was mainly to open a new series of movies. Now they left thing wide open to have more movies. Overall ok movie.

Lois was too young yes.  Then, I think they could've had her with darker brunette hair.  The son of Superman bit was/is a bogus move.  The Lex & Gertrude scene in the beginning was irrelevant and lethargic.  Superman Returns might have been a *home-run* if the story was alot better.  I give it a 6.5 out of 10.

Superman Returns is one of the best movies ive seen in this whole year. This is why i love going to the movies to be entertained and just escape. The performances were all top notch especially kevin spacey who made this lex more darker and violent, which sadly gene hackman was lacking. Kate bosworth did a good job and i dont care how young or old she is as long as she delivers and she does. Brandon Routh did a really good job as clark and superman which was an added bonus. The whole story of the little boy being superman's son kind of knocked me back, it wasnt really for me but i'll let that slide.  Just like the original 78' film with margot kidder saying the line can you read my mind which almost kind of ruined the film but i let that one slide like i do here in this film. This movie stands toe to toe with batman begins and the original richard donner film. Bryan singer and his team did an amazing job of respecting the original films and making their own story as well. Amazing film.
