The Wayans brothers ("White Chicks," "Scary Movie")--Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory--have inked a deal with Universal to create a 21st century update of the popular 60's sitcom "The Munsters," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The brothers will be writing the screenplay and producing and Keenen Ivory may be directing, but that detail has not been confirmed, according to the article. Keenen Ivory has directed a number of the Wayanses projects in the past, including "White Chicks" and "Scary Movie."
The Wayanses plan to keep the original characters, but place them in a contemporary setting, the article said. And despite their often appearing in movies they make, the brothers apparently plan to stay behind the camera for this film.
"The Munsters" was a popular television sitcom from 1964-1966 that told the story of a family of monsters (like Frankenstein, vampires, etc.) who don't quite fit in with regular people. The show starred Fred Gwynne ("My Cousin Vinny"), Yvonne De Carlo ("Ten Commandments"), and Al Lewis ("They Might be Giants").
There is no casting news or release date at this time.
