Beowulf Blockbuster To Go Ahead
By A random shemp on August 16, 2004 9:53 AM
The Beowulf poem has been subject to many adaptations over the years. The focus of numerous animations, a sci-fi adaptation and a Xena: Warrior Princess episode, it is now to become a fully-fledged, live-action blockbuster. With filming scheduled to start in late August, the pressure is on for Sturla Gunnarsson- director of the movie- to bring this classic poem to life.Editor: This story, review or article was submitted by one of our readers and may not necessarily reflect the Dtheatre crew's opinion. Meanwhile, the credible cast continues to grow with Elva Oskolafsdottir being the latest actress to join as the sea-hag.
Gerard Butler- who will lead the cast- remains defiant that revelations about his sexuality will not have any effect on the success of the project. Wendy Ord, a Second Unit Director on the project and close friend of Butler, said at the Ischia Film Festival: “Gerard’s sexuality does not in any way make discredit his masculinity and we are going to be supporting him all the way”
The exact date of filming for Beowulf is set for the 30th August and will begin in Iceland. For those that just can't wait to see the Danish hero in action, they had better catch the Season Six re-runs of Xena:Warrior Princess which sees the formidable Lucy Lawless pitted against the man himself.

There HAS been a movie of this made before, Christopher Lambert played the part of Beowulf. It was AWFUL (It was made way back in 1999 I think, check IMDB)

It was an unholy crap. Lambert trying to act as cool as he was in Mortal Kombat. But at least Rayden was a funny character.
