Slow Windows 98: Uncovering the problem

Almost every pc user is familiar with Windows 98, and chances are they have encountered a slow Windows 98 as well. It can be bitter experience when your Windows 98 starts slowing down because there's gonna be more waiting time than working time.

The good old Windows 98 is still in use on some PCs, particularly on those older models where it can't handle the requirements needed to run the higher Windows version like XP, Vista and 7. Another reason why some people still use Windows 98 is because there are application problems that run well and smoothly on it, whereas it becomes a compability issue when run on the upper Windows versions.

A slow Windows 98, on the other hand, can becomes so unreliable that you might as well not use it. But all is not lost. What you need to do is to find the source of the problem. The first place to look into is the Windows registry. Problems like failed installation or improper uninstallation of programs can leave unnecessary bits of "junk" within the registry entries, and when left unattended, can start causing errors on the entire Windows system later on.
