Training puppies: 7 easy tips

When you are training puppies you need to keep these things in mind.

  • Be consistent to the commands or else your puppy would get confused. If you have twice said 'go potty' then you need to exactly repeat it all the time when you would take them for toilet.
  • Puppies are fond of treats and if you can reward them after each good job they do, that would make your puppy spirited to learn more.
  • The most important part of training puppies is that you should never ignore any bad behavior or else you would spoil them.
  • Reframe any negative expression of yours. For example, if your puppy has run away from you, don't stop them by saying 'no'. Instead say 'come' or 'sit'. Then praise your puppy for listening to your command.
  • While training puppies use a particular pair of shoes and jackets. This would help them understand that you would be now moving for a training session.
  • Beating your puppy or your dog is absolutely a crime. So never loose your temper while training puppies even if they mess up like anything.
  • Do not pat your puppy immediately after correcting them from a mistake. This might carry a mixed message to your puppy. They might get confused.

Training for dogs is a consistent process

Any training for dogs must be carried out regularly. If you want to see results, you need to be consistent in training puppies. Generally puppies can be trained after they are 4 to 6 months old. Prior to that they won't be able to learn anything. When you would start training, you should make it a point that whatever happens you would have to make out time for this daily.

If you stop repeating the exercises for a week or so, your puppy would forget what you have taught and you would have to start from the beginning. But always plan a schedule that won't be that exhaustive for your little puppy. Also before you start training puppies you need to research on their breed and learn the characteristic features.
